Chemical Name: DESLORATADINE (des-lor-AT-a-deen)
Clarinex 0.5mg/ml is an antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of hay fever and other allergic conditions such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes, and sneezing. It is also used to relieve itching and rash due to chronic hives. Clarinex 0.5mg/ml may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Clarinex 0.5mg/ml. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiodarone, azithromycin, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, ketoconazole, or other antihistamines (eg, diphenhydramine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including kidney problems, liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Clarinex 0.5mg/ml.
Follow the directions for using Clarinex 0.5mg/ml provided by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet is available with Clarinex 0.5mg/ml. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure this dose. Clarinex 0.5mg/ml may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. STORE CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. KEEP CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml if you have had an allergic reaction to it or to loratadine, or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR DOSE, exceed the recommended dose, or take Clarinex 0.5mg/ml more often than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Drowsiness may occur if you take more of Clarinex 0.5mg/ml than prescribed. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Clarinex 0.5mg/ml. Clarinex 0.5mg/ml may interfere with skin allergy tests. IF YOU ARE SCHEDULED FOR A SKIN TEST, talk to your doctor. You may need to stop taking Clarinex 0.5mg/ml for a few days before the tests. CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS OR DROWSINESS. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Clarinex 0.5mg/ml. Using Clarinex 0.5mg/ml alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol, may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes cough-and-cold medicines or other products that may contain other antihistamines. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Clarinex 0.5mg/ml during pregnancy. CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Clarinex 0.5mg/ml.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Clarinex 0.5mg/ml include cough, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, increased or decreased appetite, nausea, nosebleed, sore throat, trouble sleeping, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience dark urine; ear pain or discharge; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; mental or mood changes; pale stools; seizures; severe or persistent cough; severe or persistent nosebleed; or yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml IS UNLIKELY, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, or fast or irregular heartbeat.
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, contact your doctor. DO NOT SHARE CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml for other health conditions. IF USING CLARINEX 0.5mg/ml FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
