Chemical Name: DESLORATADINE (des-lor-AT-a-deen)

Common uses for Clarinex
Clarinex 5mg is an antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of hay fever and other allergic conditions such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes, and sneezing. It is also used to relieve itching and rash due to chronic hives. Clarinex 5mg may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Clarinex
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Clarinex 5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiodarone, azithromycin, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, ketoconazole, or other antihistamines (eg, diphenhydramine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including kidney problems, liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Clarinex 5mg.

Directions for Clarinex
Follow the directions for using Clarinex 5mg provided by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet is available with Clarinex 5mg. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. Clarinex 5mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. STORE CLARINEX 5mg at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. KEEP CLARINEX 5mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CLARINEX 5mg and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions for Clarinex
DO NOT TAKE CLARINEX 5mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or to loratadine, or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR DOSE, exceed the recommended dose, or take Clarinex 5mg more often than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Drowsiness may occur if you take more of Clarinex 5mg than prescribed. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Clarinex 5mg. Clarinex 5mg may interfere with skin allergy tests. IF YOU ARE SCHEDULED FOR A SKIN TEST, talk to your doctor. You may need to stop taking Clarinex 5mg for a few days before the tests. CLARINEX 5mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS OR DROWSINESS. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Clarinex 5mg. Using Clarinex 5mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol, may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes cough-and-cold medicines or other products that may contain other antihistamines. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Clarinex 5mg during pregnancy. CLARINEX 5mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Clarinex 5mg.

Possible side effects of Clarinex
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Clarinex 5mg include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, menstrual pain, muscle pain, nausea, sore throat, tiredness, or upset stomach. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience dark urine, fast or irregular heartbeat, pale stools, seizures, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO CLARINEX 5mg IS UNLIKELY, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. If you take too much Clarinex
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, or fast or irregular heartbeat.

If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, contact your doctor. DO NOT SHARE CLARINEX 5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CLARINEX 5mg for other health conditions. IF USING CLARINEX 5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
