I finally joined Drugstore.com because I would really like to put something in perspective. I saw so many one-star reviews for this product that all said the same thing: it bleached their towels, it dried their skin like no other. Listen here, this acne cleanser has 10% BENZOYL PEROXIDE in it. Of COURSE it's going to bleach your towels if you're not careful - benzoyl peroxide is a bleacher.

And here's the big part, my response to the dry skin and blah blah. Before buying this product you really need to CONSIDER:
1. have I ever used benzoyl peroxide before? (This cleanser contains 10%, which is the highest concentration of BP you can have!! Of COURSE your skin is going to freak out if it has never been exposed to BP!! It's like a culture shock for your skin!)

2. since 10% benzoyl peroxide is so strong, am I sure that I want to resort to using something so strong on my skin? If you're in your teens and have tried a few cleansers in your life, maybe with salicylic acid or something in them, and they worked "okay" but you want something WOW, don't use this YET! Try more things..this may be way too strong for your mild acne.

I'm young, but I've dealt with acne for five years now. In those five years I've had bad scarring, extremely stubborn blackheads, pimples that take weeks to clear out, etc. I can't classify my acne as "severe" but it is bad. For about a year I used a 10% benzoyl peroxide spot treatment. The first day I bought it I put a little bit on, and no result. The next day I smothered it on, and I was extremely pleased with the results. I did this for quite a while and my skin was used to the benzoyl peroxide. Then I found this, and I am amazed. It seriously worked wonders, I noticed a visible difference within hours of using it.

My main point is, KNOW your skin. Put some benzoyl peroxide on it first and see how it reacts. Use this cleanser, or another cleanser with 10% BP as a last resort after you're fed up with trying tons and tons of cleansers that don't seem to work for you. Ask yourself whether you really need this strong cleanser or not.

Oh and wear a bit of moisturizer after using it.

ive been using this product for about a month now, and that's about how long its taken for my acne to clear. ive noticed that this product clears my acne quickly and i havent been breaking out as much. before using this product i used to break out a lot all over my cheeks and the sides of my chin, and now that is almost clear (i have a couple of scars) but ive been breaking out on the middle of my chin and little bumps on my forehead while using this product. its kind of wierd how this product makes my skin break out in different places. also KEEP THIS PRODUCT AWAY FROM YOUR EYES! the area underneath and around my eyes are itchy red and gross. really bad irritation. after using it for about a month my skin felt finally clear on about the third week. but this might have just been me cause that was the week my swim team ended and my face wasnt exposed to chlorine. since then ive joined another swim team and my acne has been back. i guess if youre normal and it's used on a regular basis it can be effective. overall this product was good, but not amazing.

Comments about Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser, 5 oz:

I developed pretty bad adult acne. I am 28. I never had acne this bad, even in my teens. I got acne cysts, little bumps, all kinds of pimples all over my face. Believe me when I tell you I tried EVERYTHING! I was buying a new face wash every few weeks. I tried creams, toners, pads. Even tried the store brand proactive. I didn't like salycic acid products because they made my face red and irritated. I was at a loss and ready to call a dermatologist. On a last chance effort I bought this face wash and I liked it, it didn't irritate my face at all. I use it twice a day. That right there made me happy. It leaves my face clean and it goes on thick, covering the skin good. Avoid the eye area! It didn't stain or bleach my clothes. After using it for about 2 months, I looked in the mirror one day and I was surprised because my skin looked...good. I stood there looking at it for a few minutes because for once, my face wasn't covered in pimples. I haven't had any of those horrible painful cysts in a while. I still get a pimple here and there but nothing major. Buy this face wash and stick with it, don't give up and you will see results.

I also highly recommend using a sulfur face mask twice a week.

Comments about Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser, 5 oz:

I do as the directions say. I massage it all over my face for 20-30 seconds. I really try to dry out my skin with this so I can't really blame the product. I'm sure I could keep my skin a little moist if I didn't use so much but I also use Cerave to moisturize my face when my skin gets dry. I always try to find something that can help me with my terrible cystic acne. I'm usually disappointed but this isn't so bad. It really helps fight off large cystic acne on my face and when I do get one that refuses to be fought off this cream seems to help get rid of it faster then I could on my own just washing my face. I get very oily skin and workout a lot so my skin is always at war it seems. I never had acne till my adult years so if you have moderate cystic/adult acne it should help. If you have extreme acne I can't say this would help you. It's great for removing large amounts of oil my face produces. Which really tends to be where my cysts come from. At most I'd get 4-5 of them at my worst. So if you have anymore then this maybe it won't help you. Lately my skin is clear of large cysts only small ones at times that I can quickly clear up with this. You will get dry skin but it's worth it so you don't see giant red puss tumors on your face! LOL Good luck!

I would definetly recommend this product. Before, I had used cetaphil and proactiv and both products only worked temporarily. I started seeing changes w/ Clean & Clear within a week of use. I use it in the morning, then add a skin moisturizer before I go outside. Then I use it at night, but no moisturizer. It does tend to dry out your face a bit, but when washing your face you are only supposed to use it for 20 seconds. I have seen great improvements on this product in just 3 weeks.

Comments about Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser, 5 oz:

I use the product twice a day: once in the morning and once at night. If I feel my skin is more oily than usual in the afternoon, I use it a third time. I've had moderate acne since grade school, and even now while I am in college. This controls my acne pretty well. I was never totally clear even while on prescription meds, so I'm not surprised that my skin isn't totally clear with this product. The results are similar to the prescription med I WAS on (benzaclin). I've never had my clothes stained with the product, but I've read that this is possible. Just be careful. There is minor skin irritation, but that will vary from person to person. It doesn't dry me out, but again, that will vary on one's skin type.

Comments about Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser, 5 oz:

This product is good at what it does, HOWEVER, I recommend that you don't use it unless you have very greasy or acne prone skin.

I usually have clear skin but a couple months ago I started breaking out pretty badly for seemingly no reason. I ran out of my old face wash around the same time so I went shopping and came home with this product. The first time I used it I made sure not to get it around my eyes and I applied a face moisturizer after, but that night my eyelids were red, extremely itchy and noticeably swollen and if I scratched them at all they would swell up even more and it looked ridiculous. It lasted for days and was very uncomfortable and a little embarrassing walking around with swollen, droopy, red eyelids that I could barely stop itching. It did help dry out my acne but it also dried up the rest of my face too, leaving me with leftover acne patches, flaky patches and swollen, itchy, red eyes on top. It wasn't pretty. And I know I'm not allergic to benzoyl peroxide because I've used other products with it that worked fine for me.

I know this cleanser has a strong concentration of benzoyl peroxide so I thought maybe my skin just needed time to get used to it. I waited until the itchiness and redness were completely cleared up and tried again, this time only putting a small amount on my T-zone for less than 20 seconds. I used a clean damp cloth to wipe most of it off, then rinsed with warm water. Wiping with a cloth first was an attempt to keep the cleanser from running into my eyes when I rinsed my whole face. I had dry patches until I applied moisturizer and again that night I experienced very itchy, swollen, red eyelids that lasted for days. Again, it helped clear the acne but I also had the dry patches and itchy eyes. I waited for this to subside and decided that maybe it would be best if I just didn't use this cleanser anymore.

My bout of acne subsided (probably hormonal) and I went back to my regular face cleaning routine with my natural cleanser, facial mist toner and moisturizer and within a few days my skin was much healthier.

Then just a few days ago I was having some small breakouts and something got into me to give it another shot and I was even more careful about applying and rinsing to make sure that I wouldn't have a reaction. I was wrong. I can say with almost 100% certainty that it didn't get near my eyes while washing or rinsing, but as soon as I was done my eyelids were red, itchy and swollen and I had dry patches that went away with time and moisturizer but my eyelids are still red, swollen and super itchy.

In closing, I realized that my skin just doesn't need such a powerful cleanser and that for me personally, it did more harm than good. But I imagine that someone with worse acne or less sensitive skin would benefit a lot from this product, which is why I rated it a 3 out of 5. This is a good product and it does what it's supposed to do. If you don't have a bad reaction to it then it would work great but I recommend testing other cleansers with a lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide first and do a spot test with this product before using it all over your face. I've gone back to my tried and true cleansing methods and I guess we all have to deal with small acne breakouts now and then but I won't be using this product again because my personal experience was barely tolerable.

My sister in law recommended this producted to me. I have adult acne prone skin. After reading reviews, i decided to buy it. The reviews say that it dries out your skin and bleaches your towels (if it clears up my skin, bleach away :) I also started using Body Shop Tea Tree line though. I think that that line is wroking well with my skin, and when i see a break out starting to form, i use this product in the shower once or twice. It doesn't work miracles, but i think that i finally found two products that work with my skin. if you are looking for something to help with acne, and doesn't cost a fortune, this is definitly a product for you.

My son uses this product on a daily basis and he is very acne prone. He was on oral medication, it upset his stomach so no more. Then a topical, it works, but he didn't like the feel of it. We tried proactive and it's difficult to get a teenager to do all three steps morning and night. I could however, get him to wash his face twice a day. This worked fabulously! If he runs out, the acne comes back. If he uses something with salicylic acid, the acne comes back. This is the best. It contains benzoyl peroxide and has a very light menthol sent. I use it myself every once in a while and it never dries my skin. It's da'bomb. :)

I have had severe acne since age 12, and now that I'm 23 I finally found something that works. I apply with a wash cloth at night for a gentle way to remove dead skin and make up. If you aren't wearing makeup, then don't use a moisturizer. It feels a little dry the first few times, but it was the key to clearing my complextion.
