I am a rather impatient person and like to be in control of certain things in my life (yes, Type A personality). Anyhow, I was 34 when me and my husband started trying to conceive beginning in June 2009 during our 1st year wedding anniversary in the Caribbean. Anyhow, I thought I knew my body like clockwork and that I ovulated on the 14th day of my cycle. WRONG. We tried in June and July during the 5 days before and up to what I thought was when I was ovulating (even planned our anniversary trip around those days). When we did not get pregnant during those 2 months I started freaking out. He's 41 and I was 34 so I thought we were screwed. Then something told me to look into getting a fertility monitor so I purchased this one. I was so annoyed when I opened the box to see that I had to start between the 1st and 5th day of my cycle. By the time I purchased the darn thing I was already on day 7. Being the impatient person that I am (I could not wait until the next month to start using it --- sorry), I just pretended I was on day 5 of my cycle and started using the darn thing. I figured I'd know I was 2 days off and the monitor would catch up on the next go around if we did not succeed during the first time. During the first 16 days of my cycle (according to the monitor) I was at "low" fertility. I started freaking out since, like I stated previously, I thought day 14 was my peak. Then, I got 2 high fertility days on days 17 and 18, followed by 2 peak days on days 19 and 20, respectively. Hence, I ovulated on day 20, which blew my mind. That was also my 35 birthday, which was sort of funny. Me and my husband made sure to have intercourse on virtually all of the high and peak days (especially my birthday of course), although we did skip one day because we both were dead tired from a late night workout. Anyhow, my cycle was 28 days as usual and I did not get my period on the 28th day. So I took one of those First Response (early results) test the day after my period was due (DON'T buy this First Response test BTW, it sucks) and it gave me only one solid line a really faint second line - so faint I really did not notice until I tilted the stupid test but it was so faint I just threw it out and thought I was not pregnant and was really annoyed. I was really crampy so I was certain my period was just late and it was coming any day. But when my period still did not come almost 10 days later I took other tests and they confirmed I was pregnant!!! I am currently 6 weeks. Me and hubby are going our prenatal checkup in a couple of days to hopefully hear the heart beat and do genetic testing. Very very excited. This product worked like a charm. Worth EVERY penny! I used the monitor for the first time and fell pregnant. Unfortunately, I miscarried at 8 weeks. This was 7 weeks ago, and I am now trying again, so far I am on day 18, and have had a HIGH on monitor since day 7, but no peak. I suspect I will not ovulate this month, but will keep trying. My GP said it can take while for hormone levels to settle back down. Absolutely recommend it, as it does work. It's worth every penny! Like others, I had been skeptical at first (especially given the high pricetag!). I generally had a 31 - 36 day cycle, then after a few months of using the monitor, it told me I was at peak very early...on course for a 28 day cycle. I was surprised at the timing, and assumed the monitor was wrong, but we conceived and are now 5 weeks pregnant. I recommend using it, especially if your cycles are irregular. Good luck. I followed the directions precisely and read all the disclaimers, but the monitor failed to detect my LH surge month after month (which regular Ovulation Predictor Kits continued to detect) because it prompted me to begin testing far too early in my long cycles. I was exceptionally disappointed with this expensve product. Comments about Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor, 1 ea: Don't give up hope if you haven't conceived. My husband and I tried for months before I purchased the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. I have gotten pregnant two times using this monitor, each time on the third cycle. If you plan on conceiving a certain month, start using the monitor two or three months before, so it can really dial in on your hormones. I hated it when people told me to relax, don't think about it, etc. All you really need to know is when you ovulate! Good Luck! I used it for one cycle before trying to conceive in order to figure it out, and then we started trying to conceive during my second cycle using the monitor. My BBT seemed too inconsistent to be helpful and LH strips hadn't improved our success. Not knowing how long it would take to conceive, we decided to purchase the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. Though expensive, we thought it would be worth it in the long run since the computer learns your cycles. As it turned out, the fertility monitor was worth it in the short run. We conceived our first month using the monitor. I discovered my estrogen surge was very early and that I also ovulated earlier than I thought. The monitor was so easy to use, and having a machine pinpoint peak fertility made everything much simpler. No more fumbling around with a thermometer first thing in the morning and trying to accurately interpret the LH strips! One of the best parts of using the monitor is that it allowed me to relax. You just sit back and do what it says. It keeps track of everything. I can honestly say it is worth every penny. Comments about Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor, 1 ea: YOU CANNOT USE THIS WITH THE SHETTLES METHOD! You cannot test as many times a day as you want. It is not explained very well in the literature. I had to go to the clearblue site and read the FAQ to find out. I bought this expensive monitor thinking that it would be better for the method we are trying to use. It is a great monitor for it's intended use. I hope people read this and don't make the same costly mistake I did.
