Clif Bar is named after my father, Clifford, my childhood hero and companion throughout the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
In 1990, I lived in a garage with my dog, skis, climbing gear, bicycle and two trumpets. The inspiration to create an energy bar occurred during a day-long, 175-mile ride with my buddy Jay. We'd been gnawing on some "other" energy bars. Suddenly despite my hunger, I couldn't take another bite. That's the moment I now call "the epiphany". Two years later, after countless hours in Mom's kitchen, Clif Bar became a reality. And the mission to create a better-tasting energy bar was accomplished. Thanks, Mom!

For me the black cherry almond is the best, least strong, flavored of the Clif bar products. It goes down easy enough, but can be a lump in the stomach on a really hot day doing a long ride. Once it starts to break down, really helps get you to the next turn. Also , one of the last energy bars to be lactose free. Which is great for all of us lactose intolerant types. Overall very happy with the product, as long as you breath between bites and don't wolf it down.

I thought the Black Cherry Almond Bar was filling, moist, and easy to chew (for being a grain bar). The taste was a little too sweet/heavy for me. If that's the case for you too, maybe try the Clif Apricot Bar-- it seems a little lighter? Overall, the Clif fruit bars seem like a nice variation from the nutrition bars that are peanut, chocolate, or yogurt based. I didn't notice any aftertaste with the Clif Apricot Bar, but I did have an aftertaste with the Clif Black Cherry Almond.

Black Cherry Almond Clif Bars are great snacks. Not too sweet but just enough to make it a good snack. Better than the other Clif Bars which tend to be a bit too dessert candy-like.
