Perhaps people who give this product low ratings don't know how to use it properly, or expect heavy-duty curls like a regular curling iron. Both do specific jobs--I use hot curling brushes to add body or make hair go in the direction it's supposed to (particularly bangs). It is essential for people with short, layered hair. I find it indispensable and often use it concurrently with a regular hot curling iron. It can either give you soft, flattering curls or make wavy hair more smooth and uniform.

The buttons that turn the unit on, broke, inside the handle after 4 months of careful use. I have owned this same model before and it lasted much longer, perhaps this was a "seconds" purchase and I was unaware of it.

I use a straightener on most of my hair. But I use the Conair styling brush to curl my bangs and curl under the back of my hair. The brush works great, adds shine to my hair and heats up fast. Great price, great product!
