For someone who could definitely use some extra melanin, I had been toying with the idea of using a self tanning lotion for quite some time, but never got up the courage to do so with fear of turning orange, smelling pungent, spending a fortune on a product, and/or getting stuck in a time consuming routine just to keep up the tan. After reading reviews, I decided to give Coppertone Gradual Tan a try, and if it didn't work out, I would only be out [$] Upon opening, I was pleasantly surprised by the smell, expecting the worst. I was also surprised to see that the lotion was white! Maybe it's because I was a self tanning lotion virgin, but I assumed that it would be some shade of brown. After just one quick and easy application at night, I had a wonderfully healthy looking glow the next morning with no streaks in sight! Also, who knew that a self tanner could be such a good moisturizer, as well? Now when I shave my legs every morning, it's nothing but silky smoothness! I added one more "coat" the next day and, on the 3rd day, decided to maintain that color - a beautiful bronze that I could never even achieve in my wildest dreams, mostly because of my insistence on wearing SPF 50+ every time I go out in the sun, but I'm a cancer geneticist, so you should, too! No color is worth melanoma. Anyway, I digress. I now apply this on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, to maintain. My three suggestions would be to 1) DON'T wash your entire hands as the bottle says to. The first time I applied it, I washed my hands thoroughly and wound up with white fingers and hands. Now, I just use a damp tissue to wipe my palms and nails, but leave the rest be and it looks perfectly every time. 2) Don't forget your earlobes and also in between your fingers ever so slightly so you don't wind up with webbing. 3) Be careful of your eyebrows and hair if you are like me and have blonde ones! Pros:*Decent Smell*Easy application for 1st timers with no streaks as long as you rub it all in*Beautiful BROWN color*Inexpensive*Easy to maintain*Dries quickly *Looks naturalCons:*White color makes it difficult to tell where you have already applied the lotion*Difficult product to find other than on a few websites, which concerns me that it may be taken off the market in the futureBottom Line:Get this product if you are curious about trying a self-tanner for the fist time and want an inexpensive, easy, beautiful, SUNLESS tan. For the first time in years, people aren't asking me if I'm ill simply because my skin is transparent, and I'm loving it!

I always used Bain de Soel and Loved it, then I couldn't find it anymore. I tried tan towels,which I liked but they were a little expensive. I've tried a lot of things and ended up looking like Tony the Tiger. My daughter bought this for me for a Mother's Day gift. I would have probably not have purchased it because of being a little of a "brand snob" but I'm so glad she did it's awesome. Just make sure you exfoliate, I dry brush bfore I shower.
Plus, I love the way it doesn't get all over your clothes when you sweat.

Originally bought this on sale at local pharmacy discount store. Used it all last summer on my legs which don't seem to tan well, and they turned a lovely dark, natural looking tan. Glad to find it on drugstore.com because i can't find it anywhere at the local stores this year. I ordered two!

Great tan in the winter. Quick dry, good color for fair skin. Smell of the product is not ideal but manageable.

I don't use this every day, but am happy with the results. Just enough color, so that it doesn't seem fake. Makes skin softer.

I use this as a moisturizer and light color under base by Covergirl. all it takes is a very small amount on face, neck (throat) and don't forget to apply on earlobes.....
if you stop at the ear you can see the line. then a smidgen of liquid Covergirl base
before the moisturizer dries and you're set to go.

As far as the color of the tan it isn't too bad but if you aren't careful it won't be even. You have to be super careful around your feet and knees or you will end up with splotches. It takes forever to dry and since it is white it is hard to see where you put it. The color is the best out of all the self tanners I have used but there are the drawbacks.

This is an awesome product with no "orange afterglow!" It is so natural and as the name "gradual" is perfect with a little sun! I can't find it in stores so drugstore.com has saved me from searching!! I use it in place of makeup and look like I have been on vacation!! I am never ever without this product, seriously!!!!!love it !!!
