With two children having very sensitive, exzema-prone skin, we are very limited in what sunscreens we can use. Anything with Avobenzone gives them rashes, so we need to stick with zinc or titanium-based lotions. I was having luck with the new Neutrogena sensitive and baby suncreens, but they're so darn expensive for 3 ounces. I saw this, and it's our new favorite. Yes, it's got a bit of that physical block white cast, but it's quality protection. They're the least-tanned kids on the block! :) Also rates well on the EWG's Skin Deep database for safety and effectiveness.

I'll be copying this review verbatim to several other sunscreens because I tried so many, and they all turned out the same--effective, but unsuitable for daily use due to a chalky white residue that would not fully rub in. Over a year ago, I decided I wanted to protect myself from cancer and wrinkles by incorporating sunscreen into my daily beauty routine. This product works and gets a great rating from the Environmental Working Group. However, I needed something I could use on a daily basis. This product is heavy and leaves a pasty, chalky white residue that stains your clothes with daily use. Also, because it takes so long to rub in (and you can never rub it in completely), I found myself increasingly skipping it, which totally defeated my skin cancer and wrinkle prevention purpose. I ultimately landed on EltaMD UV Lotion SPF 30+ Full Body Sunscreen for daily use on my upper body and EltaMD's UV Daily Sheer Moisturizing Facial Sunscreen for daily use on my face and neck. Because of the cost of those two products, I still keep around some of the cheaper, 1 and 2-rated chalky stuff for pool/beach days, outdoor concerts, or other times when I don't care so much about what I look like or need to apply it multiple times. But for daily use, Elta MD is the way to go. So yes, I would recommend this product, but only for heavy use days, and not daily use.

Comments about Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple, Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50, 8 fl oz:

When Vanicream SFP 60 was reformulated this year I had to scramble to find a replacement. Actually I didn't care for that one either as it left my face chalk white and greasy. I have highly reactive skin and of all new products I've tried, including MDSolarscience SPF 50 and Cotz for sensitive skin SPF 40, those left me with a very obvious sunburn despite sitting on my face for hours like white kabuki makeup - and they both were highly rated on the EWG website.

Finally I was fed up with spending a lot of $ of products that didn't work and made me look awful. I worried about the octinoxate and octisalate in this product - initally I experience a mild eruption of a pimple or two on my face and a few on my neck and arms. However I have highly reactive skin so I think anyone with normal skin or even of average sensitivy might not experience this. What I love most is that it did not leave the slightest white cast on my already sunburned face like every other product and it really was moisturing instead of miserably drying and aging as all the others were. And I could also dust mineral powder over it and it looked perfectly nice whereas with the other SPFs that would really look horrible.

When I went out over the course of several bright June days where the UVA rating hit 10, I no longer looked like a sundried tomato as I did with the all mineral sunscreens - I think I came back paler than when I went out as this stopped me from continuing to get even more red from the SPFs I used previously. Soon my color returned to normal. I can now stay out in the sun every bit as long as I should be able to according to the SPF level - four hours or so, without the slightest trace of burn. I will have to endure the occasional pimple here and there on my face. If I used it every day that could cause a problem but for a couple times during the week when I am out for long walks I don't find it an issue. It does not sweat off, sting, or stain my clothes. I do apply before I get dressed and then wait ten minutes for it to sink it. I see a white cast on my arms usually when I overapply which doesn't concern me at all.

At long last instead of spending oodles of $ on three different products for my face and body I can now use this for everything and I do not dread applying it! It's not sticky or gooey and is much easier to apply than all the purely mineral based SPFs I have been through like Aubrey Organics Natural Sun, Nature's Gate Sport, Alba Botanica Sport..all like applying Crisco as compared to this. It's a large bottle that will last all summer. I would not recommend buying the smaller size versions for sensitive or face because it is an identical formulation and you will be paying more money for the exact same product.

Comments about Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple, Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50, 8 fl oz:

As I read a article about different sunscreens and the differences between "physical" and "chemical" sunscreen, I decided to bought this "physical" one as my old "chemical" one makes my already bad skin even worse. The only con is that it takes a little bit longer for it "absorb" but that totally tolerable.

It has almost the same ingredients as "Coppertone Sensitive Skin Suncreen Lotion, SPF 50", but this one is bigger in size.(I really like the color of the sensitive skin one, the package of both of them are different from the picture online.)

Comments about Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple, Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50, 8 fl oz:

Spreads fairly easily, rubs in reasonably well. Still shows some white, but way less than most mineral based sunscreens I've tried, and I've tried many. Environmental Working Group rates this pretty good for safety, a 2 I think, but everything I've tried that they give a 1 to has been unusable because they are way too white, some like mime-face makeup. This is the best I've tried that is easily available. It is a lot more expensive than chemical-based sunscreens, but reasonably priced for a mineral sunscreen.

I use this sunscreen for both myself and my kids (none of which are babies.) Being closer to the sun than other areas of the country and having fair skin, I'm always careful not to get burned. This product stays on a long time, even in the water. And it doesn't contain Oxybenzone like most other sunscreens. (If you haven't read about why you shouldn't use Oxybenzone, look it up.) I recommened it for everyone - not just babies.

Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

                   –  When your little one is splashing in the pool, playing on the playground, or enjoying an outdoor stroller ride, he or she needs reliable protection from ultraviolet light. Shopping for a kid-friendly sunscreen can be challenging. You want the product to be strong enough to protect your child from the sun, but you want to be gentle to your child’s delicate and sensitive skin. Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 offers a formula that protects while minimizing irritation, making it ideal for young skin.

                  Gentle Protection

As the No. 1 pediatrician-recommended brand, Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen delivers photostable, broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Its unique formula was designed after being tested by pediatricians, dermatologists, and ophthalmologists. This sunscreen is water resistant for up to 80 minutes, allowing your little one to splash while staying protected.

Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen is perfect for a child's skin because it is free of oil, fragrances, and dyes. Instead, this hypoallergenic formula relies on zinc oxide, which is gentle on children's skin. Plus, this kid-friendly formula is tear-free, meaning it won't sting the eyes. When you apply this sunscreen to your child's skin, he or she enjoys more than basic sun protection. Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen also features a moisturizing formula infused with aloe, which protects against dryness.

                  Coppertone: A Trusted Leader

Coppertone is a household name in the sun protection industry -- and for good reason. The company was the first in North America to launch the sun protection factor, or SPF, that you see emblazoned on sunscreens today. The SPF 50 found in Coppertone's Water Babies Sunscreen offers superior protection for active children enjoying the outdoors. Suitable for daily use, this sunscreen can reduce the risk of sunburn every time your child steps outdoors.
