Use in our bedroom--especially during winter. It is absolutely quite in operation. Maintains humidity at setting. I especially like the embedded silver that provides germ-free storage of water. Cleaning is a snap!
I really don't understand the problems cited by previous reviews. Found this when searching for best price on another one for granddaughter's bedroom.

I am talking about the Mode SH8201, which may be different to the model cited by previous reviews.

BTW, a previous humidifier resulted in both my wife and I having Legionaire's Disease. I suppose we failed to keep enough antimicrobial solution in it--or, perhaps failed to clean it often enough. I never want to have the disease again.

I have loved the other Crane cool mist humidifiers I have had over the years. (the frog and hello kitty kid versions) We use them in the winter to help with the extremely dry winter air and during the occasional cold or flu. Other than the tedious cleaning involved, which I'm sure is required of every humidifier in order to prevent germ/mold growth, the Crane cool mist humidifiers have worked consistently well in providing their soothing cool mist and have always run SILENTLY. I am so disappointed with this Crane Germ Defense humidifier because it runs so loudly that we cannot use it. The cool mist and other features (except the warm mist which I have not tried) work as expected, but the motor/fan noise is unbearably loud. I really wanted to love this Crane too, but it is useless for us due to the noise. I wish I had saved the packaging so that I could return it!

This was very expensive compared to my other humidifier. That old school one by Kaz or Vicks that is just a tub of water with a heating element on top. I love that thing. It puts out warm mist and is very easy to take care of but it has no settings to adjust the mist. This one I have been using for a few days and I like it okay but the warm mist feature is not really a warm mist like I was expecting having used the Kaz Vaporizer. It is only very slightly warmer than the cool mist. Using that function causes a very toxic plastic smell to fill the room. I don't like that at all. Thinking about returning it! I do like the digital settings but the glow from the light panel is so bright I could read by it at night. I can't sleep with that kind of light. I wish they allowed a dimmer or the ability to turn it off! For that kind of money this thing should be perfect. And it really isn't.
