Chemical Name: TORSEMIDE (TORE-se-mide)

Common uses for Demadex
Demadex 10mg is a loop diuretic used to treat high blood pressure or swelling due to excessive body water. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Demadex
WARNING: This drug is a strong "water pill" (diuretic). Using too much of this drug can lead to serious water and mineral loss. Therefore, it is important you be monitored by your doctor. Promptly notify your doctor if you become very thirsty, have a dry mouth, or become confused while taking Demadex 10mg. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Demadex 10mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking aminoglycosides (eg, gentamicin), chloral hydrate, cisplatin, digitoxin, digoxin, ginseng, lithium, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen, indomethacin), or probenecid. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including ascites, a blood problem, dehydration, diabetes, diarrhea, hearing problems (eg, hearing loss, ringing in the ears), heart problems (eg, heart failure, recent heart attack), high blood uric acid levels, kidney or liver problems, low blood potassium levels, low urine output, lupus, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF DEMADEX 10mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are unable to urinate. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Demadex 10mg.

Directions for Demadex
Follow the directions for using Demadex 10mg provided by your doctor. Demadex 10mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Demadex 10mg may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first start taking it. To keep this from disturbing your sleep, try to take your dose before 6 pm. IF YOU ALSO TAKE CHOLESTYRAMINE, do not take it within 4 hours before or after taking Demadex 10mg. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions. AVOID eating licorice or Korean ginseng. STORE DEMADEX 10mg at room temperature 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 C) is permitted. KEEP DEMADEX 10mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF DEMADEX 10mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.

Cautions for Demadex
DO NOT TAKE DEMADEX 10mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it, if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product, or to sulfonylureas (eg, glyburide). IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION to a sulfonylurea (eg, glyburide), contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking Demadex 10mg. A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Demadex 10mg or if a certain medicine is a sulfonylurea, contact your doctor or pharmacist. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more of Demadex 10mg unless your doctor tells you to do so. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including kidney function, electrolyte levels, and blood pressure, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Demadex 10mg. WEIGHT SHOULD BE MONITORED while you are taking Demadex 10mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Demadex 10mg. Demadex 10mg may cause dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Demadex 10mg. Using Demadex 10mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DEMADEX 10mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. PATIENTS WHO TAKE MEDICINE for high blood pressure often feel tired or rundown for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal." Tell your doctor if you develop any new symptoms. DEMADEX 10mg MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Demadex 10mg. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. YOUR DOCTOR MAY HAVE ALSO PRESCRIBED a potassium supplement for you. If so, follow the dosing carefully. Do not start taking additional potassium on your own or change your diet to include more potassium without first checking with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IT IS UNKNOWN IF DEMADEX 10mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Demadex 10mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Demadex 10mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.

Possible side effects of Demadex
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Demadex 10mg include constipation, dizziness or lightheadedness upon sitting up or standing, excessive urination, headache, or nausea. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain; confusion; diarrhea; dry mouth or unusual thirst; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; hearing loss or ringing in the ears; loss of appetite; muscle pain or cramps; rapid or irregular heartbeat; rectal bleeding; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; restlessness; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; or vomiting. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Demadex 10mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. If you take too much Demadex
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dry mouth, dizziness, excessive urination followed by a decrease in amount of urine, muscle cramps, weakness, and weak or irregular heartbeat.

Additional information for Demadex
DO NOT SHARE DEMADEX 10mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE DEMADEX 10mg for other health conditions. IF YOU WILL BE USING DEMADEX 10mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out. CHECK WITH YOUR PHARMACIST about how to dispose of unused medicine.
