It's no different than any other chocolate protein bar. I am pleased to see that Detour is making lower calorie bars now, as their previous bars are more like two meals rather than one, and definitely not a snack. The taste is good. It gets a little tiring after a few bites, but if you're only looking for sustenance, you'll be just fine. If you're looking for something that leaves you satisfied or cures a sweet tooth, this might not be the bar for you.

Finding a bar that is so high in protein, while low in sugars was great. Finding one that doesn't taste like cardboard was even better! Yes - there is the slightest after-taste. But I checked the label on my bag o'ricecakes - and it doesn't come close on the protein grams, while still going 3g of sugar. This just does not taste good. I like some chocolate energy bars (and don't expect for them to totally taste like chocolate) but this has a weird pastey/powdering taste and texture and has a chemical aftertaste.

I eat half of the bar before I workout so I can maintain my energy through an intense cardio workout. I like that it has 30g of protien.

These bars are great for those that work out regularly. As an afternoon snack, one of these bars combined with an apple and some almonds (or other nuts) makes the overall meal about 400 calories (30+ grams of protein, ~40 grams of carbs, and ~12 grams of fat). If you eat 5-6 meals per day, this is the ideal meal-size to keep your metabilism running efficiently.

As for the taste, I would label it as "ok". They are a bit chalky, but this is the case with almost all protein bars I've tried. The real benefit is the convenience (easy to pack into a gym bag or briefcase) and nutrition (see above) they provide.
