I have rosacea, so I wasn't sure this product would work well. In the past, things like this would set my face on fire. These clean really well and do not irritate me at all. Also, this may seem like a weird use, but my youngest daughter does not have time for a shower in PE class. She takes these to school and wipes her face with one and uses another to get the sweat out from under her arms. They freshen her up. She puts on fresh deodorant, and doesn't have to go through the school day smelling like body odor. We keep these stocked in our bathroom. Many uses!

I had been loyally using Thayers Witch Hazel Astringent pads for two or so years when I came upon these pads on Drugstore.com. I was going to restock on my usual, but at a time that they were on sale, and had the added portability of these compared to Thayers was a huge plus, so I took the plunge. I bought a few boxes of these based on the positive reviews and thinking how different could they be than other witch hazel pads? Not the best choice I've ever made...

This product does its job (for the most part). However the Thayers Astringent Pads are far superior in nearly every way other than portability. These pads smell pretty FOUL. No, they are not intolerable, but I generally enjoy more earthy and natural smelling things and I still find the smell of these offensive, and more of a chemical/alcohol scent than anything natural. Not so offensive that I won't use what I have (although I did pawn off some of my supply to my bf who is just grateful to be supplied with anything that helps his skin with minimal effort on his part). And it can't be the witch hazel alone because the other brand's pads would smell just as bad. Thayers does add Grapefruit seed extract which may help the scent, but instead of adding anything positive to help the scent, it looks as though Dickinson's has added preservatives and a higher percentage of alcohol instead-yuck.

They also are not as effective as the Thayers pads in removing impurities and in their astringent properties. Yes, they unfold to a larger size, yes they are portable. Thayers pads although much smaller have a better texture and seem better able to really get the oil and grime. As horrifying as it is to say, you can SEE the difference.

Additionally, the boxes of the product that I had received had a sticker put over the 100% natural label on the box, which was replaced by the statement "with botanical extracts." So it looks as though this once natural formula is no longer, especially seeing that the box that is portrayed on here also has this updated message. How unfortunate. I will use the supply of these I have when I am on the run or just in case I run out of Thayers, but I will certainly not repurchase.

Comments about Dickinson's Cleansing Astringent Towelettes, 20 ea:

The perfect thing if you're feeling hot and sweaty, or oily. The wipes are soft, larger than the usual toner pads, and will stay moist for awhile, even with the alcohol in it. Even if you're not having a "problem" with your skin, it's a refreshing pick-me-up. They're a little pricey, but so convenient I don't really mind. The only thing I would change is adding more "flavors," like maybe lavender or lilac or jasmine, or even cucumber or mint. Also be careful not to get it in your eyes - it will sting. It will also sting on broken skin, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, since the alcohol provides some measure of disinfectant.

Comments about Dickinson's Cleansing Astringent Towelettes, 20 ea:

I have acne prone skin and usually have to use products from my dermatologist but tried this and have been using it almost every night to wash my face and remove my make up (not mascara though). They're also great to wash your face in the morning. These towelettes are awesome and I don't break out. I have gone through 3 boxes so far and ordered another 5. Great for travel and convenience. Really cuts down on my night time routine. i recommended it to my mom and she loved it to!

Comments about Dickinson's Cleansing Astringent Towelettes, 20 ea:

Back in the 80's & 90's I lived on Dickinson's Towelettes--especially when I was traveling! After the drugstore chain where I purchased them went out of business I was not able to find them anywhere! Then last year I found them here and ordered 4 boxes!! I was SO EXCITED...the anticipation of their arrival and then the SHOCK and AAAWWWW: WHAT on earth is that SMELL???? Oh well...I still use them for most of the same uses as before: freshening my face & neck, cooling my neck and forehead, etc. The only thing I DON'T USE THEM FOR ANYMORE: Cleaning [washing] my hands right before I eat!

I have been using these for years and can no longer find them in any stores. They are the perfect facial cleansing wipe when I travel. They come in individual packets, which is a feature no other cleansing wipes share. They are so large that I actually use them twice, one half at a time. They are gentle and non-drying and have a lovely smell. I am so glad to have found these on drugstore.com and will continue to stock up on them each time I order.

I love these things. I always have some in my purse and car. I have very sensitive, acne-prone skin and they don't bother me at all. I thought they would be drying but they aren't. Especially great for traveling - good for freshening up on long car or plane rides. Can remove makeup with them or use them on bare skin. I've used them to remove eye makeup in a pinch but I wouldn't do it all the time.
