Chemical Name: BENZPHETAMINE (benz-FET-a-meen)
Didrex 50mg is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Didrex 50mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE DIDREX 50mg if you are taking furazolidone, guanadrel, or guanethidine, or if you have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) in the past 14 days. DO NOT TAKE DIDREX 50mg if you take other anorectic medicines (eg, amphetamine) or have taken anorectic medicines within the past year. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine); urinary acidifiers (eg, ascorbic acid); urinary alkalinizers (eg, sodium bicarbonate); tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline); or medicines for high blood pressure. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including if you have a history of heart problems, blood vessel problems, lung or breathing problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems, mental or mood problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF DIDREX 50mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have glaucoma, an overactive thyroid, moderate to severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe heart blood vessel problems, irregular heartbeat, or certain other heart problems (eg, murmur, heart valve problems). USE OF DIDREX 50mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are in an agitated state; if you are pregnant or may become pregnant; or if you have a history of alcohol or other substance abuse. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Didrex 50mg.
Follow the directions for using Didrex 50mg provided by your doctor. Didrex 50mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. STORE DIDREX 50mg at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP DIDREX 50mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF DIDREX 50mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE DIDREX 50mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it, if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product, or if you have had an allergic reaction to a sympathomimetic amine (eg, pseudoephedrine). DO NOT STOP TAKING DIDREX 50mg without first checking with your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking Didrex 50mg, you may experience withdrawal symptoms, such as extreme fatigue, mental depression, or sleep changes. When used for an extended period of time, Didrex 50mg may not work as well and may require different dosing. Talk with your doctor if Didrex 50mg stops working well. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Didrex 50mg for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Didrex 50mg for longer than prescribed may cause serious side effects, including severe heart or lung problems. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Didrex 50mg. Didrex 50mg may cause drowsiness or dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Didrex 50mg. Using Didrex 50mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DO NOT USE Didrex 50mg for any reason or condition other than the one for which it was prescribed. DIDREX 50mg MAY CAUSE SLEEPLESSNESS. If you have trouble sleeping, you may need to take Didrex 50mg earlier in the day. Talk to your doctor before adjusting your dose of Didrex 50mg. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicines to treat obesity. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE DIDREX 50mg if you are pregnant. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. DIDREX 50mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Didrex 50mg. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Didrex 50mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Didrex 50mg include changes in sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, nausea, restlessness, sleeplessness, tremor, or unpleasant taste. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision; chest pain; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; mental or mood changes; new or unusual shortness of breath; pounding in the chest; severe or persistent dizziness or headache; severe excitability; or swelling of the feet or legs. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Didrex 50mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion; depression; high fever; irregular heartbeat; loss of consciousness; panic; rapid breathing; restlessness; seizures; severe nausea or diarrhea; severe tiredness; stomach cramps; tremor; or vomiting.
DO NOT SHARE DIDREX 50mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE DIDREX 50mg for other health conditions. KEEP DIDREX 50mg out of the reach of children.
