Chemical Name: FLUCONAZOLE (floo-KOE-na-zole)
Diflucan 150mg is an azole antifungal used to treat vaginal yeast infections. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Diflucan 150mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE DIFLUCAN 150mg if you are also taking ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine), astemizole, terfenadine, cisapride, clopidogrel, erythromycin, or pimozide. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking aldosterone blockers (eg, eplerenone), antiarrhythmics (eg, amiodarone, sotalol), anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), arsenic, benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam, midazolam), buspirone, carbamazepine, colchicine, cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, domperidone, everolimus, fentanyl, haloperidol, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins" (eg, simvastatin), hormonal contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), lurasidone, macrolide antibiotics (eg, clarithromycin), macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus), methadone, muscarinic antagonists (eg, solifenacin, tolterodine), proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) (eg, omeprazole), quinolones (eg, levofloxacin), rifamycins (eg, rifabutin, rifampin), ramelteon, ranolazine, serotonin (5-HT1) receptor agonists (eg, eletriptan), sulfonylureas (eg, glipizide, glyburide, tolbutamide), theophylline, tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline), or vasopressin antagonists (eg, tolvaptan). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of liver problems, kidney problems, heart problems (eg, irregular heartbeat, structural heart problems), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have a weakened immune system, HIV infection, diabetes, cancer, or blood electrolyte problems (eg, low blood potassium or magnesium levels). Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to other azole antifungals (eg, itraconazole). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Diflucan 150mg.
Follow the directions for using Diflucan 150mg provided by your doctor. Diflucan 150mg may come with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Diflucan 150mg. TAKE DIFLUCAN 150mg by mouth. Diflucan 150mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. DIFLUCAN 150mg MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. TAKE DIFLUCAN 150mg at least 2 hours before proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) (eg, omeprazole). STORE DIFLUCAN 150mg below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. KEEP DIFLUCAN 150mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue taking Diflucan 150mg for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. FOR SOME WOMEN, it may take longer than 24 hours for symptom relief to begin. If your symptoms have not gotten better within 3 to 5 days, you should call your doctor. Only 1 dose of Diflucan 150mg is usually required. IF YOUR DOCTOR HAS PRESCRIBED MORE THAN 1 DOSE OF DIFLUCAN 150mg AND YOU MISS A DOSE, take it as soon as possible. Continue to use Diflucan 150mg as directed by your doctor. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE DIFLUCAN 150mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT STOP USING DIFLUCAN 150mg without first checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function and kidney function, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Diflucan 150mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Diflucan 150mg. Diflucan 150mg may cause dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Diflucan 150mg. Using Diflucan 150mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. IF YOU EXPERIENCE difficulty breathing; tightness of chest; swelling of eyelids, face, or lips; or if you develop a rash or hives, tell your doctor immediately. Do not take any more of Diflucan 150mg unless your doctor tells you to do so. DIFLUCAN 150mg HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE RARE CASES OF SERIOUS LIVER DAMAGE, including death, mainly in patients with serious medical conditions. Liver damage caused by Diflucan 150mg has not been attributed to total daily dose, length of therapy, or sex or age of the patient. This type of liver damage may or may not be reversible when Diflucan 150mg is stopped. Contact your doctor right away if you experience dark urine, loss of appetite, pale stools, severe stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. DIFLUCAN 150mg ONLY WORKS AGAINST FUNGI; it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold) or bacterial infections. BE SURE TO USE DIFLUCAN 150mg FOR THE FULL COURSE OF TREATMENT. If you do not, the medicine may not clear up your infection completely. The fungus could also become less sensitive to this or other medicines. This could make the infection harder to treat in the future. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING DIFLUCAN 150mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU ARE USING HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL (EG, BIRTH CONTROL PILLS), Diflucan 150mg may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control (eg, condoms) while you are taking Diflucan 150mg. IF YOU BECOME PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Diflucan 150mg during pregnancy. DIFLUCAN 150mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Diflucan 150mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Diflucan 150mg include headache, mild stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, taste changes, or dizziness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience dark urine; fever; irregular heartbeat; loss of appetite; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting; sore throat; swelling of your hands; unusual or severe stomach pain; unusual tiredness; or yellowing of the eyes or skin. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Diflucan 150mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include behavior changes, hallucinations, seizures, or slowed breathing.
