I've used Lactaid and its generic equivalent with mixed results. They worked if I took 2 or 3 before eating milk products. Problem was I didn't always remember to take them with me on the road and some things I ate, like some cakes, contain milk products that really bothered me. Since taking Digestive Advantage, I've discarded the Lactaid and haven't had a single problem with food or side effects. This stuff has taken away my problems to the point where I can eat a bowl of ice cream at 8:00 at night with no problem! I highly recommend you try them. BUT I notices after a month, that i"m constantly bloated and full of gas, and I observed my diet and activities, and concluded it was this Digestive Advantage pills. I stopped taking it, and went back to taking lactase enzyme pill at each dairy meal, and bloating and gas went away. I looked up this website and ordered a bottle for her to try. She followed the dosing instructions and is gradually adding dairy back into her diet. She had cheese for the first time in a year with no bad side effects! She's looking forward to yogurt next. She is so happy after the first week she asked me to order a 4 month supply. Comments about Digestive Advantage Lactose Defense Formula, Capsules, 32 ea: Having IBS that is triggered by stress, I had to eliminate most dairy products from my diet or had to rely on taking brand name lactose pills with every meal. Cutting down on my dairy consumption alleviates IBS flare-ups, but I did not like having to take a lactose pill (or two) before every meal. While they worked quite well, the lactose pills usually left me constipated. I was desperate for relief and decided to take a chance with these pills. After 2.5 months of daily usage (never skipping a day, even while traveling), I can say that this product has eliminated the need to take lactose pills throughout the day. I take one of these pills in the morning, and I can eat a cheesy or creamy dinner 12 hours later without suffering afterwards. Nowadays after eating ice cream or any food that is mainly dairy-based, I feel mildly bloated but I am never in pain; before, eating ice cream would have guaranteed a bout of diarrhea. (Sorry for being so graphic, but if you're reading this, I'm sure you appreciate the honesty because you are most likely suffering too.) I must note though that this is no magic cure; I still drink lactose-free milk and don't go overboard on the dairy. While my stress levels haven't gone down, I feel better and more normal now, which is the way I used to feel before IBS and my lactose intolerance. I am very lactose-intolerant, and now I take one tiny pill every morning and I can eat dairy. I would say it has improved my quality of life- I don't have to worry about whether dairy is hidden in foods, I don't have to pop a Lactaid before every piece of cheese I might want to eat at a party, and I can enjoy an ice cream cone anytime. Then, I could never get into the habit of taking a tablet every time I ate dairy. I was continually forgetting to carry any with me, so eating out was a miserable experience; I couldn't order anything with dairy, or ate dairy without thinking! When I ran across this product a couple of months ago, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it. Digestive Advantage is perfect! I take one tablet per day, and can eat anything I want. It's wonderful!
