Chemical Name: DILTIAZEM (dil-TYE-a-zem)

Common uses for Dilacor Xr
Dilacor Xr 180mg is a calcium channel blocker used to treat angina (chest pain) or high blood pressure. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Dilacor Xr
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Dilacor Xr 180mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE DILACOR XR 180mg if you are also taking erythromycin. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), benzodiazepines (eg, triazolam, midazolam), buspirone, carbamazepine, cholesterol-lowering "statin" medicines (eg, lovastatin, simvastatin, atorvastatin), cilostazol, cimetidine, cisapride, clonidine, colchicine, corticosteroids (eg, methylprednisolone), cyclosporine, digoxin, everolimus, fentanyl, other medicines for high blood pressure or heart conditions, certain medicines for heart rhythm (eg, amiodarone, dronedarone), HIV protease inhibitors (eg, atazanavir, indinavir), hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), lurasidone, macrolide antibiotics (eg, clarithromycin), moricizine, nifedipine, quinidine, ranolazine, rifamycins (eg, rifampin), macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, sirolimus, tacrolimus), theophylline, tricyclic antidepressants (eg, imipramine), or vasopressin antagonists (eg, tolvaptan). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including heart failure, recent heart attack with lung congestion, heart block, a very slow heart rate, or other heart problems; low blood pressure; kidney or liver disease; certain stomach or intestine problems (eg, narrowing); allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. USE OF DILACOR XR 180mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have certain heart problems (eg, sick sinus syndrome, second- or third-degree heart block) and do not have a pacemaker, you have very low blood pressure, or you have fluid buildup in the lungs during or soon after a heart attack. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Dilacor Xr 180mg.

Directions for Dilacor Xr
Follow the directions for using Dilacor Xr 180mg provided by your doctor. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. TAKE DILACOR XR 180mg ON AN EMPTY STOMACH at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. STORE DILACOR XR 180mg at room temperature, away from heat and light. KEEP DILACOR XR 180mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. Taking Dilacor Xr 180mg at the same time each day will help you to remember. CONTINUE TO TAKE DILACOR XR 180mg even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF DILACOR XR 180mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions for Dilacor Xr
DO NOT TAKE DILACOR XR 180mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT EXCEED THE RCEOMMENDED DOSE OR STOP USING DILACOR XR 180mg without first checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including blood pressure checks, electrocardiogram (ECG), and heart rate, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Dilacor Xr 180mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell your doctor or dentist that you are using Dilacor Xr 180mg. Dilacor Xr 180mg may cause drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Dilacor Xr 180mg. Using Dilacor Xr 180mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DILACOR XR 180mg MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Dilacor Xr 180mg. Use a sunscreen or protective clothing if you must be outside for a prolonged period. PATIENTS WHO TAKE MEDICINE FOR HIGH BLOOD PERSSURE often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after starting treatment. Be sure to take your medicine even if you may not feel "normal." Tell your doctor if you develop new symptoms. Be sure to have your blood pressure checked regularly while taking Dilacor Xr 180mg. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING DILACOR XR 180mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine, especially swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands; dizziness; and slow heartbeat. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Dilacor Xr 180mg during pregnancy. DILACOR XR 180mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. Do not breast-feed while taking Dilacor Xr 180mg.

Possible side effects of Dilacor Xr
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while you are taking Dilacor Xr 180mg are constipation, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, tiredness, or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience tender, bleeding, or swollen gums; fever, chills, or sore throat; unusual bleeding or bruising; unusual or persistent tiredness or weakness; or vision changes. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; mood or mental changes; severe or persistent dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, or vomiting; personality changes; reddened, blistered or swollen skin; shortness of breath; sudden weight gain; swelling of the feet, ankles, or hands; or symptoms of liver problems (eg, yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, pale stools). An allergic reaction to Dilacor Xr 180mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you take too much Dilacor Xr
If overdose is suspected contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion; difficulty breathing, especially when lying down; dizziness; drowsiness; fainting; lightheadedness, especially upon standing; loss of consciousness; nausea; nervousness; slurred speech; very slow heart rate; unusual weakness.
