        I started with 2 capsules of 500 mg at night (1,000 mg total).

        Here's the deal: I have had insomnia for decades and have tried everything; and I mean EVERYTHING. Some medications have been effective; however some have side effects of next-day drowsiness, and at any rate, I'd prefer a non-pharmaceutical approach.

        L-Tryptophan is an amino acid naturally present in many foods, however usually not in sufficient quantities to use as a sleep aid. One wouldn't want to drink a half gallon of milk before bed, for example. So for the purposes of insomnia, whether occasional or chronic, we take a supplement.

        The most important points I would like to stress about L-Tryptophan: You can take it up to probably even an hour before you fall asleep, and it doesn't MAKE you sleepy. The great thing is when your head hits the pillow, it takes MUCH LESS TIME to fall asleep. AND there is no "hangover" or sleepiness in the morning or at any point during the following day.

        It has enabled me to almost immediately reduce my usual dosage of a POPULAR prescription sleep aid by 50%. I was on 10 mg. of this medication EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for over 5 years. Now I take 5 mg. of the medication -- and NOT every night, either. I absolutely intend to be free of the prescription medication in the next 30 days. The L-Tryptophan allows me to fall asleep in a safer, healthier way. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
