Dr. Scholl's History
Dr. Scholl's company's namesake and founder, William Mathias Scholl, began his career in footwear early on: he repaired shoes as a child, using tools lent by his grandfather, who'd cobbled in Germany. He launched Dr. Scholl Inc. in his early twenties, soon after graduating from medical school in 1904, and - thanks to his prodigious talents as both a podiatrist and a marketer - the business soon accounted for hundreds of foot-care products across an international market. Many were designed and patented by Scholl himself - from exercise sandals to corn-treatment pads.
Scholl's profits breached $1 million in 1915. By 1955, his brainchild enjoyed the third-best brand recognition in the world. A Forbes Small Business article summarizing his entrepreneurial acumen quoted some of his well-known advertising slogans, including "When your feet hurt, you hurt all over."
The company continued to expand after Scholl's death in 1968. Its founder's name doesn't just live on in the business itself: there's also the prestigious, long-running William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago.
Conditions and Products
We offer many Dr. Scholl's products here at drugstore.com, the spectrum collectively addressing a huge range of podiatric conditions. Some of these are simple aggravations such as blisters or ingrown toenails, which can nonetheless severely hamper movement. People also commonly suffer from bunions, those uncomfortable swellings of the joint in the big toe; the stubborn knobs of hardened skin called corns; and plantar warts. Athlete's foot, meanwhile, is caused by a fungus and can promote intense itching and burning - and, notably, can spread quite readily to other parts of the body.
Other issues - such as the arch pain stemming from flat feet, persistent pain in the heel, or arthritis can be very difficult to deal with. Such physiological complications can also extend beyond the foot itself: lower back pain, for example, is often associated with the jarring impact of heel-on-ground movement. Dr. Scholl’s offers products that can alleviate some of the discomfort that accompanies these issues.
Beyond these painful or irritating problems, Dr. Scholl's also tackles a very widespread issue associated with feet and footwear: sweat and odor. You'll also find cosmetic items such as exfoliators specially designed for the foot region as well as massagers and other therapeutic products.
From blister and bunion pads and soothing creams to odor-combating powders and orthotic inserts, the Dr. Scholl's lineup is about as varied and specialized as you could ask for. Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and ask if Dr. Scholl products are right for you. Then scroll through what's available here at drugstore.com to find some relief from your discomfort.
