Comments about e.l.f. Matte Lip Color, Tea Rose, .06 oz:

I looove e.l.f. products because they are an amazing value and - a major plus for me - they are cruelty-free & Peta certified. But sometimes you get what you pay for, which unfortunately, is the case with many e.l.f. products in terms of their packaging (which is a small price to pay for such low prices, so that isn't a deal breaker for me at all). That being said, my Tea Rose lipstick DID come flying out of the pencil when I tried to open it Lol but I managed to put it right back in & use it without any problems. I just found it really funny, actually, because that's the sort malfunction I mean about their packaging :) Now, onto the product itself. I was looking for a matte lipliner/lipstick & this is definitely matte (it's more a jumbo lipliner type lipstick pencil, just fyi). So make no mistake, if that's not what you're looking for do not purchase this product. It isn't a gloss or a creamy lipstick. I wanted a nude matte & a matte rosy pink lip liner to use as a base for some of my creamier lipsticks for longevity. This is excellent for that purpose. Although, I was off about the colors. As I said, I wanted a nude one to sort of tone down the brighter lipsticks that didn't quite work on me, and a rosy pink one because I have many rosy lipsticks that I wanted to set with a strong matte base to last throughout the day & to brighten up my browner rosy lipsticks that sort of wash me out. The Tea Rose turned out to be a mauve leaning more towards purple than pink, but I ended up really loving it :) I've actually been looking for a matte mauve lipstick so it was kind of an unexpected little surprise to come across one when I wasn't even looking this time haha So, Tea Rose is not the rosy pink I was expecting but still a gorgeous mauve that I love wearing on it's own. By on it's on I mean without mixing any other lipstick colors or putting gloss on top. As they are matte, you obviously should exfoliate your lips prior to wearing this & also use a lip balm, let it sink in for a couple minutes then blot off the excess and you should be able to apply the matte lipstick without the resistance & cakey-ness (I know that's not a word, LOL) that you sometimes get with mattes. Now, the Natural did not turn out to be the nude I was looking for, either, but again, I wasn't disappointed because I ended up really loving the color as well. In fact, I saw on the e.l.f. website after I got the Natural that they DO have a nude one called Nearly Nude that is more what I was looking for, but drugstore did not carry that color at the time of my purchase. At the time, I thought Natural meant Nude, but Natural turned out to be a really pretty, natural pink lip color that still works as a great base to brighten my browner rosy lipsticks. I also really love to wear it alone with or without gloss (looks great with a smokey eye). All in all, not disappointed with my purchase even though the colors are not what I was expecting :) And just for reference, I have a medium olive/tan complexion with warm undertone, so this is how the colors read on MY skintone. Hope this helps!

I would use this with a clear lip gloss only, too stiff and cakie on lips by it self.
