I cannot believe how well this stuff works! I LOVE IT! I read about this somewhere...maybe Oprah, can't remember. Anyway, I had a melanoma 15 years ago and am an avid sunscreen wearer. This stuff is amazing as it is the first sunscreen for the face where it doesn't clog pore or feel greasy. It is like a light moisturizer and leaves no film! Where has this stuff been--long overdue for a product like this! Maybe its just me, but I swear my make-up goes on better after using this. I love it and will be a life long consumer!!
I started using this product about a year ago. I am fair-skinned and a few people close to me have been diagnosed with skin cancer. Also, I'm kinda scared of getting old and wrinkled. I decided I wanted to start using a sunscreen on a daily basis. After doing some research, I learned that most sunscreens that you can buy at drugstores and grocery stores, while great for preventing sunburns, are frighteningly ineffective against the rays that cause skin cancer and wrinkles. So, I started sampling products that received solid ratings from the Environmental Working Group ("EWG"), a non-profit, consumer watchdog agency that investigates consumer products like this. My problem was that most sunscreens that are safe, effective and stable contain ingredients that cause a white, pasty, chalky residue. I've tried lots of stuff too. Badger, Aubrey Organics, Coppertone Pure and Simple, Johnson & Johnson--just about every product with a 1 or 2 EWG rating that wasn't crazy-expensive. All of them left that residue. I just put up with it for a while, thinking it was worth it for what I was doing for my skin. But I apply it to both my face and my all of upper body, to ensure that my arms, my shoulders, neck and chest are all treated since parts of them are sometimes exposed (short sleeves, tank tops, v- and scoop neck blouses, etc). Anyway, my bras and clothes started getting a buildup of that stuff that wouldn't wash out, and, since it takes SO LONG to rub that stuff in, I found myself increasingly skipping that part of my beauty routine. I started trying products with a 3 EWG rating (since I wasn't wearing my chalky 1s and 2s and 3 is better than nothing). That's when I stumbled onto Elta MD. This stuff leaves NO white residue and glides on great. It works great, too. I used it on vacation to Disneyland and my super-fair skin never burned. Plus, it's light, absorbs well, and it doesn't smell like sunscreen. (With all the white chalky stuff, people always asked me why I smelled like sunscreen). It really doesn't have much a scent which is nice, so it won't interfere with your favorite purfume. It does not clog my pores, and one squirt gets my face and neck. I used to use it on my upper body too, but that was so expensive, so I tried EltaMD's UV Lotion SPF 30+ Full Body Sunscreen on my upper-body and it works just as great. I use both every day and I am equally happy with each product. Because of the cost, I still keep around some of the cheaper, 1 and 2-rated chalky stuff for pool/beach days, outdoor concerts, or other times when I don't care so much about what I look like or need to apply it multiple times. But for daily use, Elta MD is the way to go.
Finally!!!! A moisturizer with high SPF that doesn't cause my makeup to turn into an oil slick. Being a melanoma survivor, I have tried numerous sunscreen products; everything from drugstore varieties to high end cosmetic lines. EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40 Sheer Moisturizing Facial Sunscreen is the first one that provides the protection I need without interfering with my makeup application.
I saw this in this year's Instyle award winners for sunscreens and since I hadn't tried that brand before I didn't know what to expect. This lotion is awesome! It blends right in, sinks in, moisturizes really well and doesn't leave me greasy, or pale as a ghost! It goes perfectly under makeup. I occasionally get dry patches from retinoid treatments and it helps moisturize those areas. I can't wait to try other products from this line!!
I have very sensitive skin and even sensitive skin for face sunscreen irritates it. But not this! This is completely nonirritating and goes on very smoothly and lightly because of the moisturizers. It isn't moisturizing enough by itself for my dry skin, but it is still wonderful.
