I have coarse hair and this system works great! It's not nearly as painful as I thought it would be. I do love how it comes with an electric razor attachment as well. If the hairs are too long, use the electric razor attachment prior to the tweezer attachment because it's much less painful if the hairs are shorter. I am only using it on my legs. I tried the underarms and I'm just much too sensitive for that.

I ordered this several months ago after reading the reviews. I took a chance that I'd agree with the people who said it's not too painful. But the first time I used it, after 10 excruciating minutes I had covered maybe one square inch! I have fine hair but a lot of it. I was so sorry I had wasted [$] on it. But then I remembered that some of the reviewers said they had gotten their legs waxed a time or two before using the Emjoi, so I decided to try that. I'm SO glad I did! I had my legs waxed twice, and from the first Emjoi use after that, it's been smooth sailing. The discomfort is minimal -- not even noticeable any more -- it's so effective, and now I spend a few minutes once a week to keep my legs smooth. I LOVE this thing! And at [$], I think I'll buy a back-up.

I've tried waxing, I remember the epilady. I read all of the comments and had a bit of trepidation at trying this. Best product I've ever tried and all the comments about it being painful...I have no idea how low those people's pain thresholds are, but this was absolutely wonderful. Follow the directions: exfoliate with a good product (I like the sea salts), follow up with a moisturizer if you have dry skin. Then get in the bathtub for about 15 minutes with some nice warm water. It's easy to use....doesn't hurt more than tweezing in general and at least it isn't tearing flesh off like with waxing. I did find using slight circular motions in certain areas of the leg worked best and will admit I still missed a few hairs, but overall I figure that was my fault and the experience was just great. Takes longer than using a razor, but good product. Do not shove it up against your flesh and it works great, no cuts.

So I bought this in 2004 and it just now died.

Pros:
- Faster than most epilators.
- Removes hair well.

Cons:
- Takes getting use to in tough areas like armpits and bikini area.

Emjoy make products that work well, but I would like their motors to last a life time. Maybe I am an epilator destroyer, but this is my second epilator and it died exactly like the first one where the motor just burns out. I never press hard on these, or jam these, and I clean them multiple times during one use and yet the motor just gives up. However, I did by this in 2004 and have gotten six years use out of it, so maybe I should feel satisfied.

Tips:
- For coarse hair use the highest speed.
- For fine hair use the low speed.
- Exfoliate well and moisturize the night before and then shower and lightly exfoliate (do not put anything on the skin) right before using making sure skin is completely dry.
- Use in warm dry area.
- Make sure skin is taunt, if skin is loose it will hurt.
- If you want to use this on your bikini area and have really course hair, I recommend you get waxed twice consecutively and then start using the epilator as this way the pain is greatly reduced. If you keep up with it, it stops hurting honestly.

I have coarse leg hair. i bought my first emjoi about five years ago and now my hair is growing back softer and not as thick. I will never use a razor again.

I love the fact that I never feel stubble anymore. My legs are always soft, whether there's hair there or not. I especially love the results on my underarms. Since I have fair skin, there was always a shadow even right after shaving. But not anymore!It does take a little while to get used to the sensation/pain of the emjoi, but it's not bad. And it's completely worth it.My only complaint is that the emjoi always breaks down after 1-2 years. I think this is my 7th one, so that's disappointing. But it's still worth [$] per year or two.

i just hate shaving and my hair is so visible that i had to do it almost every day! what's great about this product is that it is painful the first couple of times but once your skin gets used to it, there's no pain at all. i don't like the fact that you have to stroke too many times on some parts but it is still better than shaving and less irritating. it also works on my face too!

Let me first say this product requires PATIENCE,PRACTICE, and A HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE before you can see good results. I am a person who can tolerate pain, I had prepared myself for Pain based upon reading the reviews. I also had let the Hair on my LEGS grow out for 4 weeks before using this product. This product takes SEVERAL uses to MASTER using it and to TOLERATE the Pain. For Me it took about 4 or 5 times to MASTER THIS. I ALMOST GAVE UP on this product, because of the first results. The first time using this my Legs were so HAIRY (2 or 3 hairs in one Hair follicule shaft), and it was very painful. It took me about a couple days to be able to Tolerate the pain and REMOVE ALL the Hair. I wasn't sure I was using the Machine correctly, because if you put the emoji TOO CLOSE to your SKIN and if you go TOO FAST it will CUT your SKIN UP. So thats what happen to me. I was very dissapointed the FIRSTcouple of times ONLY. I was happy with the removal in some AREAS where the hair came out EASILY, and how I had expected it too. I had TROUBLE using the emoji and had Trouble Areas on the Front of the legs( the flat part) and over the Knee AREA and the THIGHS AREAS were so Tender.
The Second time using this I let my LEG HAIR grow out Again but got INGROWN HAIRS. I was so Frustrated. If you WAIT too long to let it grow out, the skin grows over it ( my Trouble areas were knee cap and sides of calfs).I had to pick some hairs out with Tweezers. So I purchsased Sea Salt Scrub for my third time HOPING I didn't waste my money and hoping to resolve this isssue. I just kept using this machine a little bit at a time, until I FINALLY got the hang of how to hold and use the machine, and it NO LONGER HURT MY LOWER LEGS. The THIGH AREA is a little bit Tender, but not like before. I tried my BIKINI AREA, and it HURT SO BAD THE FIRST TIME, SECOND TIME I USED ICE(but it seemed to make it worse). You have to build up a tolerance to the pain, after at least 5 or 6 times I am NOW ABLE TO DO BIKINI WITHOUT IT HURTING. IT NO LONGER HURTS like THE FIRST TIMES usin it. THIS product takes LONGER than SHAVING TIME, BECAUSE YOU have to GO OVER the HAIR A FEW TIMES for the plastic ROLLER to pull out the HAIR. I have had the emoji for at least 3 months, and I no longer kinck my legs. I have now MASTERED it and I don't get razor bumps(shaving) or KNICKS from IMPROPER USE of emojii. The hair on my LEGS grows out FINER. I am on the HAIRY side and it takes me about 1 hour to get ALL the HAIRS out on my LOWER and UPPER LEG, but I DONT have to SHAVE at all. I just TOUCH UP THE STRAY HAIRS. I also tried this on my UNDERARM, first time it hurt. Second time I didn't touch the outer white parts flat on my underarm. I instead lightley rolled the plastic roller away from the hair root. It worked and the results lasted. Give the Emoji time to show the results. THE HAIRS ARE FINER AND HOPEFULLY WITH TIME WILL DIMINISH.

The dual opposed tweezers work great at capturing all coarse and fine hairs, however, the shaver its self is very bulky. If it were thinner and a little more elongated, it would rate five stars in my book.

I bought this for the bikini area, but will use for legs. I hate shaving my bikini area. I have tried waxing, which is too messy and too much of a process. This is FAST and as effective as waxing. I was scared to try it, but it did not hurt as much as waxing and definitely not as much as plucking individual hairs. I am sold!
