The materials and construction of this unit are very nice; the submersible pump motor is quiet and powerful. However, poor design causes a vacuum to form in the reservoir, and as the drinking bowl empties, water does NOT flow from the reservoir to keep the bowl filled. Over a month period I tried everything to get this unit to behave as it should, i.e. automatically will the bowl with water. No luck. In desperation I drilled a small breather hole in the top of the reservoir. However, the design of the bowl keeps the water level below that of the check value which, without an internal vacuum in the reservoir, causes water to free-flow out of the bowl until the reservoir is empty. TERRIBLE design. Avoid it, and get one of the various (cheaper) alternatives.
