Chemical Name: LETROZOLE (LET-roe-zole)
Femara 2.5mg is an aromatase inhibitor used to treat breast cancer in women after menopause.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Femara 2.5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking tamoxifen or hormone replacement therapy (HRT). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor if you are still having menstrual periods or have not completely finished menopause. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including liver problems, high cholesterol, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF FEMARA 2.5mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have not started menopause. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Femara 2.5mg.
Follow the directions for using Femara 2.5mg provided by your doctor. Femara 2.5mg may come with a patient information leaflet. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions you may have about Femara 2.5mg. FEMARA 2.5mg MAY BE TAKEN on an empty stomach or with food. STORE FEMARA 2.5mg at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF FEMARA 2.5mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE FEMARA 2.5mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including bone mineral density tests or cholesterol levels, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Femara 2.5mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Femara 2.5mg. Femara 2.5mg may cause drowsiness or dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Femara 2.5mg. Using Femara 2.5mg alone, along with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. FEMARA 2.5mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS or lightheadedness. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING FEMARA 2.5mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Femara 2.5mg. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE FEMARA 2.5mg if you are pregnant. AVOID BECOMING PREGNANT while you are taking it. IF YOU MAY BECOME PREGNANT, YOU MUST USE EFFECTIVE BIRTH CONTROL while you take Femara 2.5mg. Women who are going through or have recently gone through menopause may still become pregnant. Talk with your doctor about the use of effective birth control while you take Femara 2.5mg. FEMARA 2.5mg HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Femara 2.5mg during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS DRUG IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Femara 2.5mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include back, leg, or arm pain; breast pain; constipation; cough; diarrhea; dizziness; headache; hot flashes; flushing; increased sweating; indigestion; joint or muscle pain; loss of appetite; mild swelling or fluid retention; nausea; night sweats; sleeplessness; stomach pain; tiredness; vaginal dryness or irritation; vomiting; weakness; or weight gain or loss. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience calf pain or tenderness; chest pain; confusion; fever, chills, or sore throat; increased or painful urination; numbness of an arm or leg; one-sided weakness; severe stomach pain; severe or persistent bone pain; shortness of breath; sudden severe headache, vomiting, dizziness, or fainting; swelling of the ankles or feet; unexplained vaginal bleeding or discharge; or vision or speech changes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Femara 2.5mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
DO NOT SHARE FEMARA 2.5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE FEMARA 2.5mg for other health conditions. KEEP FEMARA 2.5mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF USING FEMARA 2.5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
