First response early pregnancy test does not detect early pregnancy, at least not for me. I had used this HPT very successfully for my first two children - the + sign of two lines was bold and very easy to read. I think that the company must have changed something because 6 days before my missed period, First Response was reading negative, while Accu-Clear and babyconfirm HPTs were reading positive. The cheaper versions were more accurate, easy to read and consistent. Sometimes you DON'T get what you pay for.

This test worked very well and I used both to confirm before going to see my ob/gyn.

*** For the women who have positive tests, then get their "period"... miscarriages are extremely common and you can actually miscarry very early and it will appear that you've just gotten your period (it can seem like you finally get your period and it is just a few days late) when in fact it's a miscarriage.

I have used this test several times over the years and it has never been wrong. Also, I have yet to come across a faulty test. The control line must appear for the test to be valid. If there is a faulty test or you test too early for HCG to be detected, there is another test in the box. I love that you can test again without having to place another order.

IMPORTANT: The positive line should show up within 3 minutes. Beyond that, DON'T trust the test. Do not take the test and then walk away. Watch for the results. If you don't see a positive result within 3 minutes but later notice a faint line, what you are likely seeing is an evaporation line (I've gotten one of those). It will look like a positive line, but it is not. If you are getting a positive line within 3 minutes, but later get your "period", you may be having an early miscarriage. False positives are rare.

In general, I recommend taking the test AFTER you miss your period. There is less confusion, less money is spent, and the line will be appropriately dark if there is a pregnancy. I have never been pregnant when taking the test before my missed period so unfortunately I can't confirm if using the test early will detect a pregnancy. However, some fertility/TTC websites have noted this test is best used the day you expect your period or later.

If you are unsure a test is positive or you are getting a negative but believe you are pregnant, wait a week and retake the test if you haven't started your period. By then the amount of HCG in the blood should be high enough to be detected.

I started testing at 11 dpo with FRER pg test, the first day there was a very very faint line (possibly visible to only me), the next day the same thing - very faint line. By 13dpo the line was darker (not as dark as the control line, but visible at arms length), 14dpo, the line was similar to 13dpo. I was skeptical because the line was not super dark or the same as the control line, but I figured 4 days in a row that I really must be pregnant. I figured I would wait a couple more days until my period was actually late to call my dr. Well I'm glad I waited, the very next day I got a "not pregnant" with Clear Blue digital and I got my period. It was heartbreaking to think that I was not pregnant after 4 days of believing I was. I will not use this product again.

Did not try using it before my missed period, but had no trouble getting an accurate positive reading a few days after. The line is dark and showed up within 60 seconds.

This test confirmed what I have been thinking for weeks. After taking the test, my next stop was to the doctors (which is something I should have done in the first place). If you're wanting to know before your appointment, this test is spot on. Any time you miss a period, it is important to make a doctors appointment but my appointment was so far out that I just couldn't wait. I took the first test in the afternoon the day that I was supposed to get my period and got two very clear pink lines. I took the second test first thing the next morning (because that's what all the books and websites tell you to do) and the second line was there, but faint. I figured out that this was because I take my prenatal vitamins at night so the extra minerals in my urine were interfering with the results. The test should be taken when you have your purest urine if you want the clearest results.

The line was so faint that I had to have another pair of eyes read it for me. Blood test confirmed I was indeed pregnant! I used it the 2nd time around and again the line was so faint that I almost threw it away thinking I wasn't pregnant. At closer look the very pale faint line was indeed there. Both times I used it I was 4-7 days PAST my period onset so I was thinking I was pregnant. Bottom line, I would use this product again (in fact have), but not before a missed period, only with first morning urine, and look for a line that might not jump out at you and be pale in color. It does work though.

I have been using this procut while my husband and I have been trying to conceive. I found the test results were always accurate and I got my positive very clear and dark at only 12 days past ovulation. Other tests came up negative still when this was a bright dark positive!
