Chemical Name: FLUTICASONE (floo-TIK-a-sone)
Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment is a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking an oral corticosteroid (such as prednisone) or similar medicines. Tell your doctor if you have recently had a vaccine. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including acne-like rash, rosacea, inflammation around the mouth, skin thinning, a skin infection, measles, tuberculosis (TB), chickenpox, shingles, a positive TB skin test, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment.
Follow the directions for using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment provided by your doctor. Apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment, unless your hands are part of the treated area. DO NOT BANDAGE OR WRAP the affected area, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. STORE FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT, apply it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
DO NOT TAKE FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to any ingredient in this product, or to formaldehyde. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment. Check with your doctor before you have any vaccines while you are using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment. DO NOT use any other medicines or special cleansers on your skin unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Do not use Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment for other skin conditions at a later time. Overuse of topical products may worsen your condition. FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT IS A CORTICOSTEROID. Before you begin too use any new prescription or nonprescription medicine, check the label to see if it has a corticosteroid in it too. If it does or if you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist. AVOID GETTING FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT IN YOUR EYES or on the inside of your nose, vagina, or mouth. If you get it in any of these areas, rinse right away with cool water. Do not use Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment on the face, in the groin area, or under the armpits unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Do not apply Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment in the diaper area unless your doctor tells you otherwise. If Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment is applied to the diaper area, apply a very small amount and do not use tight-fitting undergarments or plastic pants. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR if you have a sore or cut that does not heal. SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS may occur if too much of Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment is absorbed through the skin. This may be more likely to occur if you use Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment over a large area of the body. It may also be more likely if you wrap or bandage the area after you apply Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment. The risk is greater in children. Do not use more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor right away if you develop unusual weight gain (especially in the face), muscle weakness, increased thirst or urination, confusion, unusual drowsiness, severe or persistent headache, or vision changes. Discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. Corticosteroids may affect growth rate in CHILDREN and teenagers in some cases. They may need regular growth checks while using a corticosteroid. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment include dryness or mild stinging, burning, or itching. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience acne-like rash; burning, cracking, irritation, or peeling not present before you began using Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment; excessive hair growth; inflamed hair follicles; inflammation around the mouth; or thinning, softening, or discoloration around the mouth. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Fluticasone Propionate 0.005% Ointment is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include blurred vision or other vision changes; muscle weakness; severe or persistent headache; symptoms of high blood sugar (eg, increased thirst or urination, confusion, unusual drowsiness); or unusual weight gain, especially in the face.
If your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT for other health conditions. KEEP FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE 0.005% OINTMENT out of the reach of children and pets.
