I see that my comment will be a lot newer than the past ones, so maybe things have changed. There was a meter recall at one point last year or in late 2010 for several meters due to false +/- readings because of the way the blood was tested)- this may have been one of models (or not - I was using a onetouch mini at the time and they weren't included).
The one I've used since spring of 2011 has never been off. The meter test results match with the OneTouch mini meter that I occasionally used when it was more handy after first switching over.
The newer strips require only a speck of blood the size of a pinhead, and with alternate body site testing (arms, legs, even torso) testing has never been easier (geeze I'm sounding like an ad - sorry!).
I've never had any pain with the lancing device and I find that I can use a lower setting on the lancing device because not as much blood is required to conduct the test. Not sticking fingers means no pain, and as a pianist and photographer - I like having painless fingers, lol!
For those who are still using fingers...I just have to ask myself...why?? Almost every meter now allows alternate site testing (unless you think you're bottoming out, in which case you should ALWAYS use a finger).
The meter also allows a full minute before it gives up on a test strip, so if you don't get enough out, it gives you time to get a little more to the surface. I find this a great feature as I've wasted *many* onetouch strips due to the fast time-out during testing (and at $1 per onetouch strip with no insurance it's cringe-worthy).
I think the only think I don't like is that it's not as colorful as my old onetouch mini- but I'll take function over beauty any day!
The was my second meter in less than a year, of this same brand. I started questioning the results and ordered the control solution, which showed that the monitor was accurate?? So I am not sure why that is happening but I do know for a fact that the readings are just way off...for example, I get really low readings after eating (69) when I should be around 130 or so. I would not reccomend this product at all.
I have two of the older Free Style meters and they both still give readings within 2 to 3 points of each other. I thought I would switch to a no coding model. So in March, 2010 I ordered the Free Style Lite. I used it along with the older models until August. It consistency gave readings anywhere from 10 to 20 points higher than the other monitors. Since I am a borderline diabetic, I take readings to show my doctor when I go for a checkup. I would not recommend this meter due to accuracy concerns.
This is my first tester since being diagnosed with Type II. I would use it according to directions but would need to squeeze finger constantly to obtain enough of a sample to have reading. Sometimes would then get an error, then have to start over with another strip. Strips are expensive enough without having to use more than 1 at a time!!
