This product works great. The only thing to watch out for while applying it is that you need to be sure that as much product reaches your dog's skin as possible. It seems to be less effective as more of it gets caught up in your dog's hair when you apply it. So, pay special attention to being sure that you spread your dog's hair away from the application spot as much as possible when applying. One recommendation which I have seen from others is to shave a small spot on your dogs neck (nickel-sized) with an electric clipper before applying. I use a laboratory pipetter with a plastic tip (Gilson Pipetman). The tip can be put right through the hair to contact the dog's skin. When I use this, my dog which is near the top border of the weight range of the product size I use, she gets no ticks. If I just use the dispenser applicator, some product gets caught in her thick double coat no matter how hard I try to get it through, and then she will ocassionally still get a tick bite from time to time.

I recently purchased over $200 USD worth of Frontline Plus. I have four dogs and have owned dogs for 20 years. I have a Maltese, JRT, Cockapoo and a mixed former street dog. I treated them all (applying the liquid on the back of the shoulders) 3 weeks ago with the correct doseage for their weights and size. I was still finding ticks all over them (and all over my house) so three days ago, I treated them all again. This morning, I pulled more than 20 live ticks off my J.R.T. Examining the others, I find live ticks on them all. The treatment on all the dogs has been completely ineffective and will be the last time I buy this product and waste so much money.

I have a basset hound and a bulldog and we live in the South where ticks, fleas, and mosquitos abound. The dogs stay either outside or in the garage so this treatment is not a luxury, it's an absolute necessity! Once a month I give them Heartgard (heartworm medicine) and apply Frontline for fleas/ticks. They are happy, healthy, and parasite-free (by the way, they are 11 & 9 years old). Thank goodness for this product -- the old school flea collars & powders just cannot compete.

between the shoulder blades, I split a spot in the hair until I can see skin and then squeeze it all out. It can run so I try to put the hair back in place to keep it from running to areas they may lick.
