This was my first attempt at coloring my hair. I have sparse grays and my hair is a natural black (with natural brown highlights). This hair color was a cinch to apply as a novice. Took only 30 minutes, and my hair felt really conditioned after coloring. This color blends nicely with my black hair and did not overpower my existing black strands. My husband has yet to notice that I did anything to my hair, you can't beat that it you want subtle results from your hair color. I gave this 4 stars because the ammonia-like odor (strong like when you get a perm) was overpowering and made my eyes water (and this was after it was all said and done and my hair was drying). The company claims that the odor from grape seed extract is pleasant, it's not. The odor, however, is not enough to make me stop using this product, which is still exceptional.

I like Garnier Nutrisse, but not overly fond of the results I got with Medium Natural Brown 50. Some background info is in order, though. My hair's been through a lot this week. I turned 40 recently, and decided to try some dye, instead of continually plucking out the increasing number of white/gray hairs that keep appearing around my temple/crown area. I haven't dyed or permed my hair in more than 10 years, but my hair has a moderate amount of heat-styling damage. My natural color is a very dark brown like a shot of expresso with natural mahogany/gold undertones that appear with sun/heat exposure. In my teens and 20's, I used to dye my hair regularly with whatever red or reddish brown shade struck my fancy -- the results of which rarely ever fazed me, but at my age, I wasn't feeling nearly as cavalier about it. I thought a demi-permanent would be the safest bet (gentler, washes out in 28 shampoos or less), and I chose L'Oreal Healthy Look, combining Darkest Brown Expresso 3 and Cool Chestnut Brown Iced Chocolate 4AR. My hair turned BLUE BLACK! After reading other hair color reviews, I discovered Color Oops, along with some haircolor tips. Two boxes of Color Oops and 35 minutes of rinsing later, my hair was no longer blue black. It was more or less back to my natural expresso brown, but apparently, the Healthy Look had exposed some brassy red. Healthy Look also really dried my hair out. Color Oops didn't cause any additional damage of note. I decided to go with Garnier Nutrisse to cover up the brassy red that the Healthy Look exposed. I combined Medium Natural Brown 50 and Medium Golden Mahogany Brown 535. I used the 535 to minimize any ashy tones, and hopefully, reduce my chances of ending up with blue black hair again. My dry, damaged hair is pulling too much dye, and even with this color combo, I ended up with a darkest brown/soft black with mahogany undertones. The brassiness is gone. My hair is not blue black, but it's still darker than I'd like it to be. I wish I'd rinsed before the recommended time of 25 minutes. I'll wait a month, and I may use Color Oops again if I feel up to it (that's a daunting, exhausting process). If I dye my hair again in a month, I'll use Garnier Nutrisse again, but maybe light brown next time. I like the product. No noticable dye smell. No burning or itching. Doesn't make my eyes water. Smells nice, in fact. I don't even think it damaged my hair anymore than the Healthy Look already did. The after conditioner is only single-use, smells really nice, too, but my hair is so dry now (from the Healthy Look) that it didn't really do much for me. I still needed keratin mist, anti-frizz serum, smoothing styling product, and a flat iron to tame my hair (I don't use a flat iron every day). Hope this helps someone. If you're trying to match your hair, esp. if you have dark brown hair, and your hair's dry/damaged/porous, be sure to choose a color that's, at least, 2 shades lighter than your desired result. It's easier to go darker later than it is to fix black or very dark brown hair. I'm exhausted of washing, rinsing my hair, and being in the shower. These type of hair "adventures" are not for the faint of heart.

Comments about Garnier Nutrisse Level 3 Permanent Creme Haircolor, Truffle 50, 1 ea:

This is the first time I tried coloring my hair at home in many years. The salon is just too expensive. While I found this product easy to use and not at all harsh on my hair, and while it gave great rich and even color, I found it washed out of the gray roots excessively after one shampoo, and I could see an unacceptable amount of gray after about the third shampoo. I use sulfate free shampoo meant for color treated hair.

So while it may be great for those who don't have any grays, if you have any significant amount of gray and especially color resistant gray, I would not recommend this product. I am now trying L'Oreal Excellence in Mocha Ash Brown which is a very similar color and am hoping it will perform much better with long lasting gray coverage.

I dye my own hair frequently. I'm naturally a dark blonde, and I first dyed my hair an auburn color that faded to an unsightly orange color. I figured I would color it dark brown after the red faded enough and my roots came through. I chose this color with reservations because I am pale and have light features, but I loved the color. It managed to neutralize the brassy red color and it doesn't smell quite as bad as other brands. I really like how soft my hair feels after using it. I did notice it fading a bit, but that happens with any hair color (for me at least, since I'm two shades darker than my natural color).

Unlike other brands of haircolor I have tried, this one does not fade between colorings very much. The color slightly lightens but remains the same tone without turning a different color as other brands do. It also will go on sale periodically and that makes it the best value. Therefore I am getting the best product for the best price. A win-win product!!!

Comments about Garnier Nutrisse Level 3 Permanent Creme Haircolor, Truffle 50, 1 ea:

This is the first time I have used Garnier Nutrisse hair color. In the past I have used Loreal Preference and been very pleased with the results. However, I have read very positive reviews about Garnier and wanted to give it a shot. I have naturally light ash brown hair (with some gray scattered throughout) and color it to a darker medium brown. Permanent dyes tend to bring the red out in my hair and I did end up with some reddish highlights with this product, but they were very soft and natural looking. The color I ended up with very closely matched the color represented on the box. The product smelled nice and left my hair soft and very shiny. It did a decent job of covering the gray and the color has held up nicely for the past two weeks. My biggest complaint is that it was difficult to apply. The developer and the color creme did not mix well. I thoroughly shook the bottle and it still clumped up in thick blobs, or was extremely thin and watery. One of the blobs completely blocked the application nossle so I was forced to take the cap off and pour the mixture into my hands to apply it. I haven't seen this complaint mentioned by anyone else so maybe I got a bad batch. I still highly recommend the product.

After years of using L'Oreal Excellence I decided to give this a try. I used Truffle 50- usually I use more of a dark brown-red color because I have naturally reddish highlights, so I wasn't sure how this would turn out. It was great! It brought my hair back to its natural color and made my red highlights more natural- not so coppery, auburn, reddish. I will definitely keep buying this color. Hair feels fully conditioned afterwards and the color lasts!
