This was my first attempt at coloring my hair. I have sparse grays and my hair is a natural black (with natural brown highlights). This hair color was a cinch to apply as a novice. Took only 30 minutes, and my hair felt really conditioned after coloring. This color blends nicely with my black hair and did not overpower my existing black strands. My husband has yet to notice that I did anything to my hair, you can't beat that it you want subtle results from your hair color. I gave this 4 stars because the ammonia-like odor (strong like when you get a perm) was overpowering and made my eyes water (and this was after it was all said and done and my hair was drying). The company claims that the odor from grape seed extract is pleasant, it's not. The odor, however, is not enough to make me stop using this product, which is still exceptional.

I like Garnier Nutrisse, but not overly fond of the results I got with Medium Natural Brown 50. Some background info is in order, though. My hair's been through a lot this week. I turned 40 recently, and decided to try some dye, instead of continually plucking out the increasing number of white/gray hairs that keep appearing around my temple/crown area. I haven't dyed or permed my hair in more than 10 years, but my hair has a moderate amount of heat-styling damage. My natural color is a very dark brown like a shot of expresso with natural mahogany/gold undertones that appear with sun/heat exposure. In my teens and 20's, I used to dye my hair regularly with whatever red or reddish brown shade struck my fancy -- the results of which rarely ever fazed me, but at my age, I wasn't feeling nearly as cavalier about it. I thought a demi-permanent would be the safest bet (gentler, washes out in 28 shampoos or less), and I chose L'Oreal Healthy Look, combining Darkest Brown Expresso 3 and Cool Chestnut Brown Iced Chocolate 4AR. My hair turned BLUE BLACK! After reading other hair color reviews, I discovered Color Oops, along with some haircolor tips. Two boxes of Color Oops and 35 minutes of rinsing later, my hair was no longer blue black. It was more or less back to my natural expresso brown, but apparently, the Healthy Look had exposed some brassy red. Healthy Look also really dried my hair out. Color Oops didn't cause any additional damage of note. I decided to go with Garnier Nutrisse to cover up the brassy red that the Healthy Look exposed. I combined Medium Natural Brown 50 and Medium Golden Mahogany Brown 535. I used the 535 to minimize any ashy tones, and hopefully, reduce my chances of ending up with blue black hair again. My dry, damaged hair is pulling too much dye, and even with this color combo, I ended up with a darkest brown/soft black with mahogany undertones. The brassiness is gone. My hair is not blue black, but it's still darker than I'd like it to be. I wish I'd rinsed before the recommended time of 25 minutes. I'll wait a month, and I may use Color Oops again if I feel up to it (that's a daunting, exhausting process). If I dye my hair again in a month, I'll use Garnier Nutrisse again, but maybe light brown next time. I like the product. No noticable dye smell. No burning or itching. Doesn't make my eyes water. Smells nice, in fact. I don't even think it damaged my hair anymore than the Healthy Look already did. The after conditioner is only single-use, smells really nice, too, but my hair is so dry now (from the Healthy Look) that it didn't really do much for me. I still needed keratin mist, anti-frizz serum, smoothing styling product, and a flat iron to tame my hair (I don't use a flat iron every day). Hope this helps someone. If you're trying to match your hair, esp. if you have dark brown hair, and your hair's dry/damaged/porous, be sure to choose a color that's, at least, 2 shades lighter than your desired result. It's easier to go darker later than it is to fix black or very dark brown hair. I'm exhausted of washing, rinsing my hair, and being in the shower. These type of hair "adventures" are not for the faint of heart.

The color was good, but it didn't last very long. It began to fade after about a week. I prefer Nice 'n Easy to this.

Best hair color I've used and I've tried a lot. It covered my light blond hair completely, and it's been a month since I colored and it hasn't faded or washed out at all. Covers very well, even on light hair, and has a gorgeous shine to it. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair before I tried this.

Garnier is better than L'Oreal and Clairol products, in my opinion. There is no "hair color" smell, the coverage is terrific and when done, my hair is shiny and healthy looking. I've been using Garnier for over a year now. I am almost completely gray and the outcome looks natural. Like other brands, you need to use a product one to two shades lighter than your natural hair color to achieve "natural" looking results.

The color goes on easily and does not have the typical hair dye smell. I used 50 Truffle, which I was very happy with after it was done; although, after two washings the blonde in the tips of my hair started to show back through. Now a week later it already needs re-done, I will not buy again.

I was actually surprised I liked this hair color so much since it's one of the least expensive ones you can buy. I use it cover my beginning grey and it makes my hair so soft and shiny. The model for the box cover has brown eyes and the hair color is a bit dark, but I have blue eyes and so many people have told me the color complements my eyes. I love this product!
