Lysine has been quite helpful in controlling my cold sores, I take one in the morning and one in the evening along with my calcium supplement. Before I re-ordered I double checked the image and it shows as 90 1000 mg TABLETS. Perhaps GNC has changed its packaging/image but it has not been updated here. These are 1000 mg CAPLETS - I break them in half; they are pretty big (actually measure 7/8 of an inch) and may be difficult for some to swallow.

I have tried many brands of L-lysine and this one gives results! My skin remains smoother with fewer beakouts, The "Kid" preparations ( benzoyl perxox., salycidic acid) and other topical meds do not compare. Taking this L-lysine should be taken twice a day for best results and it doesn't redden or dry out your skin. Please try it - you need to take it consistenly and, depending on your skin condition, maybe you can save $ by using it once a day???

I take a large dose of l-lysine at the first sign of a cold sore and it vanishes within minutes. I have used lots of other products and nothing has ever been as effective. I also take 1000 mg a day during periods of high stress to prevent cold sores from forming to begin with. My husband used a daily dose to effectively control and prevent cystic acne as well.

Lysine has not been proven to reduce the occurrence of cold sores, but I have been taking 1000mg a day for ~18 months, and have not had a cold sore during that time. I used to get 2-3 a year. Maybe they are diminishing with age (I’m 40). Like others, I have tried everything OTC, prescription, stress reduction, etc. with no noticeable effects. Again, I can’t say that lysine works, but I’m going to continue to take it and wish for the best.
