Definitely can get a "flush" from this, but we've also seen some impressive improvements on cholesterol test results (which is why our doctor recommended megadose Niacin - 2 to 3 g per day). Niacin has helped raise it modestly (from 29 to 35) and is the only non-prescription remedy I'm aware of. It does cause some "hot flashes" which I've decided to treat as amusing rather than annoying or alarming. Reviewed by 10 customers Sort by Displaying reviews 1-10 3/24/2012 High Quality! Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about GNC Niacin 500, Tablets, 240 ea: I take GNC Niacin along with Triple Omega and CoQ10 for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure naturally. For maximum benefit, do not choose the "flush-free" niacin. *The flushing and tingling sensations make me feel the blood flowing more freely, so I know these products are working! Research backs this up. Flushing is short term, and is somewhat alleviated if Niacin is taken with food spread over three times daily. Comments about GNC Niacin 500, Tablets, 240 ea: I've bought this product for several years, as i take niacin at a megadose rate (2G/day) on my doctors recommendation. Niacin is cheaper than statins, very effective at lowering LDL and raises HDL too. Note: I had to build up to this dose over several months, it was not easy at times. and you shoudl be monitored by a doctor periodically. Comments about GNC Niacin 500, Tablets, 240 ea: I was used to taking the 100 mg tablets and didn't realize that these were 500 mg tablets. It's okay as long as I break the tablets, but the tablets don't break well with a splitter ... must be by hand. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Best Uses Comments about GNC Niacin 500, Tablets, 240 ea: The first two days I took on my head began to tingle and feel weird about 30 minutes afterwards. On the third day I had a serious reaction, I felt like my blood was boiling, my skin turned red like a sunburn and I was very hot. It took about 40 minutes to go away but my head and stomach didn't feel normal all day long. Best Uses Comments about GNC Niacin 500, Tablets, 240 ea: I got these for my husband and he tried them for three days and couldn't stand the side-effects of the itching and flushing. I usually buy the flush free in another brand, but thought I'd try this b/c it's cheaper. Not worth the savings for sure. Best Uses Comments about GNC Niacin 500, Tablets, 240 ea: I tried to take one tablet per day but the first day I had extreme flushing and itching. I cut the pills in half and still had the reactions for about two hours. Again I halved the pills; same results.
