I didn't know these existed and was just looking for something worth only a few dollars to bring my order to the free shipping level. These are amazing! The whole barrette is one molded piece of rubbery plastic, similar to a Tupperware container lid. This is great because there are no little pieces that can break or crevices for hair to get caught in.

My hair is very fine and thin so I purchased the package of 2 smaller vs. the 1 larger and it was the right decision - it holds my hair perfectly when I twist it and clip it up to the back of my head. I'm surprised it holds as well as it does without ouchy clampy parts. I think my hair would slip out if I went jogging in it, but for everyday life it is great. It is so incredibly comfortable. The best part is I can lean back against a wall, a couch, a person, etc. and not constantly hit my clip. Personally, if I'm going out I go back to the usual hair clips with the teeth because I prefer the perkiness they give my hair. But around the house or if you are more conservative, these barrettes are the way to go!

My packet came with one brown and one black. They are matte, not shiny. They are 2 1/2" x 1 1/2".

So quick and easy to use. I can fix my hair without a mirror. Comfortable to sleep in. Started using this barrette to get my hair off my neck during the hot, hot summer but it has become my every day style.

Only con is that the rubber breaks loose at the snap.

I used to use barrettes similar to these when I was a school girl except the middle piece was connected by clipping on to the outer part and could come off. This is an all in one piece and it holds my hair. I usually use jaw clips of some sort to pull my long 3b curly hair back but they are bulky and hard against my head when I want to rest my head back against something unless they are clipped to the nape of the neck area. These are flat and comfy. I also liked how they held my hair when I straightened it out. My daughter has 3c curly hair and she likes how they hold as well.

I bought these not expecting much, but they hold my super-fine stick-straight hair without a problem - no adjustments required all day. No snagging, no pulling. I wish there was a set of two black [the brown is a bit metallic] -- or much better: tortoiseshell.
