Chemical Name: DEXTROMETHORPHAN (dex-troe-meth-OR-fan) and GUAIFENESIN (gwye-FEN-e-sin)
Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml is a cough suppressant and expectorant combination used to treat cough due to colds, flu, or hay fever. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml if you are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (such as furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, or tranylcypromine) in the past 14 days, or if you are taking a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (such as fluoxetine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a history of chronic cough, cough with large amounts of mucus, breathing problems (such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis, or emphysema), smoking, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml.
Follow the directions for taking Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml provided by your doctor. GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. TO HELP GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml LOOSEN CONGESTION, drink extra fluids while taking Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. STORE GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE without checking with your doctor. GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml MAY AFFECT CERTAIN LAB TEST RESULTS. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE drinking alcohol while you are taking Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml. GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol and other depressants (such as antihistamines, sleep aids, tranquilizers, or medicines for mood or mental problems). Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines are depressants. GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS OR DIZZINESS. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml. Using Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR if you have been very ill, or if you are confined to a bed or chair. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes other cough-and-cold medicines. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Guaifenesin-Dm 100-10mg/5ml is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion, excitability, extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing, and seizures.
If your symptoms do not improve within 5 days, if they become worse, or if you develop a high fever or persistent headache, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE GUAIFENESIN-DM 100-10mg/5ml for other health conditions.
