We recently rescued a scrappy old cat off the street...he was underweight, toothless and had a number of health issues including the following: He went from bloody diarrhea on a diet of Fancy Feast, to constipation after the vet prescribed Hills Science Diet i/d. Then the vet prescribed meds to help him poop, which seemed backwards since he was on the i/d to treat diarrhea in the first place. We even had to have him anesthetized to have him cleaned out, which was not fun for him and very expensive for us.

We suddenly realized that, just as for humans, a healthier more natural diet might be worth trying. So we found this food and it helped a great deal. He still needs minimal meds to keep him regular but his poops are more normal, and he's finally gaining weight.

However, I wish the food was free range and organic. I personally don't eat any animal products, but cats need to. But I don't want to support animal suffering of any kind. Unfortunately, most meat comes from factory farmed animals which is extremely upsetting to think about (most people just don't think about it). There is no indication that Halo food is free range. This is something I am struggling with.

We were using Newman's Own for a while, which has free range ingredients, and I would recommend others to try. However, we discovered our cat was highly allergic to fish products with a reaction of a bleeding bottom/bum and constant itching all over his body to the point where his skin was raw and bloody. All of the Newman's I've seen so far have fish, so that won't work for this kitty.

Anyhow, as soon we find another healthy cat food option that is free range we will switch to that.

Bought this years ago, and only one cat liked it. But I decided to try it again. It has been improved to a better. softer consistency that all 4 of my cats love. They actually lick their plates clean !
