State Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program
The CDC currently funds health departments in 32 states and the District of Columbia to develop effective strategies to reduce the burden of heart disease and stroke and their risk factors. The program stresses the need for policy and systems changes that promote heart–healthy, and stroke–free living and working conditions.
A Public Health Action Plan to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke
The purpose of the Action Plan is to chart a course to help achieve national goals to prevent heart disease and stroke. The National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention has been established to address and carry out targeted recommendations and specific action steps.
Healthy People 2010
The federal government has developed a prevention agenda for building a healthier nation. The agenda includes 16 health objectives that are specific to heart disease and stroke, and many more in other areas that relate to heart disease and stroke. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the co–lead agency with the National Institutes of Health for the heart disease and stroke focus area.
WISEWOMAN is a CDC–funded program that helps women with little or no health insurance gain access to screening and lifestyle interventions that can reduce their risk of heart disease, stroke, and other chronic diseases. The CDC funds 15 WISEWOMAN projects in 14 states, which operate on the local level in states and tribal organizations.
American Heart Association Forum: High Blood Pressure Management
High Blood Pressure Management is a support group for people who live with high blood pressure and share their experiences, lifestyle management tips, and information about medication.
Bloodpressureline is a peer support group for people who have been diagnosed with hypertension and who are undergoing medically supervised treatment.
Hypertension is a support group for people interested in using all forms of alternative medicine (diet, cleansing, exercises, nutrients, and lifestyle changes) and interested in sharing information on curing hypertension.
