Tested according to ANSI Specs S3.19-1974 The level of noise entering a person's ear, when hearing protector is worn as directed, is closely approximated by the difference between the A-weighted environmental noise level and the NRR
Example:
The environmental noise level as measured at the ear is 92 decibels db(A).
The NRR us 33 decibeks (db)
The level of the noise entering the ear is approximately 59 dB(A).
Warnings
Keep out of reach of infants, Adult supervision is advised when used by children. This product is non-toxic but may interfere with breathing if caught in windpipe.
For noise environments dominated by frequencies below 500 Hz, the C-weighted environment noise level should be used. Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise. Consult the instructions for proper fit. Although hearing protectors can be recommended for protection against the harmful effects of impulsive noise, the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is based on the attenuation of continuous noise and may not be an accurate indicator of the protection attainable against impulsive noise such as gunfire. This Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) calculated from the attenuation data is 25dB. HEAROS ear plugs must be properly filtered to attenuate noise effectively. Refer to directions.
I'm a very light sleeper and have tried lots of earplugs. I am commenting on the Hearos "Extreme" and not other Hearos ear plugs.
They are highly effective but they have a certain way of being inserted. 1) Roll the smaller end that goes into your ear between your fingers so it gets thinner. 2) Wet the end either with saliva or with water. (This is needed if your ear canal is not straight. It is difficult to push a piece of foam into a curved canal. If it's wet, it slides right in.) 3) Insert into your ear. All the way till it touches your ear drum will provide the best sound occlusion. The father away from the ear drum the less it occludes, so you can decide how much you want.
With it all the way to the ear drum I can't hear anything outside of the perimeter of my bed, but I can still hear my phone and alarm clock on my night stand.
I use a single pair until they don't roll down thinner easily. Eventually the foam just doesn't work as well. Sometimes my ear will itch but this is just from a buildup of ear wax during the night and I take it out and scratch or it goes away. It's not a serious problem. These have improved my sleep enormously!!!

I have tried all brands of earplugs available at the chain drugstores. They were either too small for my ears and fell out, didn't cut the noise enough, or simply were uncomfortable. These foam Hearos are perfect. Comfortable, and they expand to completely fill the ear canal and stop all noise. These are the ones to get to block noise while sleeping.
I use earplugs at night to drown out loud noise and/or snoring. These are terrific! Cannot find them in the stores where I shop, so THANKS to Drugstore.com!!
I have tried every ear plug out there and the Hearos are the best so far. They are soft and if inserted correctly are comfortable. I still hear some sounds but the majority are blocked. My nights have been more restful thanks to the ingenuity of the people who designed these.
I've used earplugs for over 15 years since my husband starting using a CPAP machine at night. This is the only brand I have found that is both SUPER comfortable and blocks out noise. I highly recommend!
This is the only defense against my husband's snoring. I have very good hearing at almost 60 years old and hope to keep it. I am not a light sleeper but my husband can wake anyone out of a coma. I use these for going to movies, any night clubbing and target shooting. I have not found a better product. I wish they made one's with 45db protection. I would buy them.
I have tried many earplugs and these blue colored Hearos are the very best. I have a very heavy footed upstairs neighbor and these allow me to sleep undisturbed!! Granted, they only last so long, but they are worth it for my sleep.
These are much better. The material is more durable they don't fall out of your ear when sleeping and they don't feel as if they are going to break off into your ear either.
Ear plugs must be inserted properly for optimum performance.
With clean hands, firmly roll entire ear plug between thumb and fingers to form a thin tight cylinder
Using one hand, gently lift top of ear up to open ear canal. With other hand, insert rounded end of ear plug
With forefinger, hold ear plug in place intil it expands to form a comfortable, snug fit.
Practice of insertion is recommended. Please refer to the audio and video instructions ar Hearos.com. Discard prosuct after several uses or as soon as dirt or wax accumulates on ear plugs.
