Comments about Herbal Concepts Herbal Comfort Hot Cold Mittens in blue, 1 ea:

I bought these for my 85 yr old Mom who has bad arthritis. After they arrived I tested them and found that they have a strong potential to become too hot in the interior. At first I couldn't even keep them on! I feel there is a risk of burn because once the hands are inside they are potentially "trapped" inside the mitts. I would never trust an aide to heat these and then put them on my Mom because she could never pull her own hands out fast enough and her ultra-delicate elderly skin would be damaged.... If the temperature is correct, thay are very effective. Also with respect to the exterior, which is ultra soft and fuzzy, no matter how hot, if the hands are lain on top they can be safely lifted. The danger here resuilts from the potential entrapment, the fact that the "mitts" essentially enclose a disabled hand inside, potentially "trapping" it and, if the mitts were overheated, can easily burn the delicate skin of someone who may not realize the intensity nor who cannot pull their hands out on their own. Unfortunately, on the other hand, if they are "underheated" they are worthless. These are great for people without disabilty, but I would not recommend them for someone who has any disability which would limit there ability to respond to overheat, nor for anyone who has any decreased sensation. I have also frozen these overnight but have found the " lasting cold" time over an injury is inot the best. They loose their "icing" ability in under 10 minutes. I note that the soft plush exterior fabric seems to "soften" or insulate the heat better than the coarse, thin, muslin interior liining. Based on my observations, I believe that a change to the fabric of the lining will make the needed difference., Hopefully they will change the interior liner so the heat will not be as intense.
