My 6 year old son has suffered from congestion since the day he was born. He breathes loudly at night and always wakes up fully congested. I bought this air filter for his room. Since I started using it, his breathing at night is quiet and he wakes up refreshed with a clear nose.

This air filter cleans the air four different ways. The air is first forced through a carbon filter, then through a HEPA filter and then it is ionized and then zapped with a UV light before being released purified. The thing I really love about this unit is that you can turn on or off the UV light and the Ionizer separately and individually. I do not use the ionizer when my son is in the room because it can release a bit of ozone and I don't use the UV lamp when he is in the room because it can release a bit of radiation. I use them both to prepare the room and then just run the regular filters all night while he's sleeping.

The cons are that the unit is a bit large and on Turbo Mode, it is VERY loud, it's pretty loud on daytime mode and a little bit loud, like the white noise machines in libraries, on night time mode. My son doesn't mind the sound at all.

One other thing to take into consideration is that the filters periodically need to be changed. There is in indicator light that will go on when the filter has used up it's hours. The carbon and HEPA filters have a lifetime of about 3 months if you run the unit continuously.
