Chemical Name: CLONAZEPAM (kloe-NA-ze-pam)
Klonopin 1mg is a benzodiazepine used to treat seizures and panic disorder. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Klonopin 1mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE KLONOPIN 1mg if you are also taking sodium oxybate (GHB). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking an antifungal (eg, fluconazole), cimetidine, disulfiram, hormonal contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), methadone, nefazodone, omeprazole, paroxetine, rifampin, St. John's wort, tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline),or valproic acid. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including myasthenia gravis; angle-closure glaucoma; kidney or liver problems; the blood disorder porphyria; chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, or other breathing problems; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have a history of mental or mood problems (eg, depression, suicidal thoughts or attempts), a history of alcohol or substance abuse or dependence, or if you consume more than 3 alcohol-containing drinks per day. USE OF KLONOPIN 1mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a severe mental disorder, acute angle glaucoma, or severe liver disease. Klonopin 1mg should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 18 years old with panic disorder; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed. Follow the directions for using Klonopin 1mg provided by your doctor. TAKE KLONOPIN 1mg EVERY DAY at evenly spaced intervals. KLONOPIN 1mg MAY BE TAKEN WITH FOOD if it upsets your stomach. STORE KLONOPIN 1mg at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF KLONOPIN 1mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE KLONOPIN 1mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it , are allergic to any ingredient in this product, or to another benzodiazepine (eg, diazepam). IF TAKING KLONOPIN 1mg TO PREVENT SEIZURES, continue taking Klonopin 1mg on a regular schedule. Do not stop taking Klonopin 1mg without first checking with your doctor. Notify your doctor if seizure control worsens. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Klonopin 1mg for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Klonopin 1mg for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function, complete blood cell counts, and electrocardiograms, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Klonopin 1mg. Klonopin 1mg may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, lightheadedness, or difficulty with coordination. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Klonopin 1mg. Using Klonopin 1mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. KLONOPIN 1mg MAY CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS if you have a history of seizures. Use Klonopin 1mg with caution. Do not perform tasks that could be unsafe for you or others if you should lose consciousness (eg, driving, swimming, running heavy machinery). DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL OR USE MEDICINES THAT MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using Klonopin 1mg; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness. PATIENTS WHO TAKE KLONOPIN 1mg MAY BE AT INCREASED RISK FOR SUICIDAL THOUGHTS OR ACTIONS. The risk may be greater in patients who have had suicidal thoughts or actions in the past. Watch patients who take Klonopin 1mg closely. Contact the doctor at once if new, worsened, or sudden symptoms such as depressed mood; anxious, restless, or irritable behavior; panic attacks; or any unusual change in mood or behavior occur. Contact the doctor right away if any signs of suicidal thoughts or actions occur. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING KLONOPIN 1mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Klonopin 1mg, especially confusion and drowsiness. FOR WOMEN: Klonopin 1mg may cause harm to the fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Klonopin 1mg during pregnancy. If you are or may be pregnant, check with your doctor for instructions on using Klonopin 1mg during pregnancy. KLONOPIN 1mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. Do not breast-feed while taking Klonopin 1mg.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while you are taking Klonopin 1mg include clumsiness or unsteadiness; constipation; cough; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; increased saliva production; lightheadedness; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness; runny nose; or tiredness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience behavior changes; blurred vision or other vision changes; change in the amount of urine produced; changes in sexual function; confusion; dark urine; excessive hair growth or loss; fever, chills, or sore throat; hallucinations; irregular heartbeat; memory loss or other memory problems; muscle aches or weakness; new or worsening mental or mood changes (eg, agitation, aggression, anxiety, depression, hostility, irritability); new or worsening seizures; painful menstrual periods; painful urination; pale stools; severe drowsiness; severe or persistent tiredness or weakness; shortness of breath; slow or shallow breathing; slurred speech or other speech problems; suicidal thoughts or actions; tremor; unusual bruising or bleeding; or yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Klonopin 1mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion, slow reflexes, clumsiness, deep sleep, and loss of consciousness.
Carry an identification card at all times that says you taking Klonopin 1mg if it is used for seizures. DO NOT SHARE KLONOPIN 1mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE KLONOPIN 1mg for other health conditions. KEEP KLONOPIN 1mg out of the reach of children and pets.
