Chemical Name: DIGOXIN (di-JOX-in)
Lanoxin 0.125mg is a cardiac glycoside used to treat heart failure and some irregular heart rhythms.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Lanoxin 0.125mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE LANOXIN 0.125mg if you are also taking sucralfate. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking acarbose, alprazolam, amphotericin B, amiodarone, anticholinergics (eg, propantheline), beta-blockers (eg, propranolol, carvedilol), bupivacaine, calcium, certain anticancer medicines, cholestyramine, colestipol, cyclosporine, diltiazem, diphenoxylate, indomethacin, itraconazole, kaolin-pectin, loop or thiazide diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), macrolides (eg, erythromycin), metoclopramide, oral aminoglycosides (eg, neomycin), penicillamine, propafenone, quinidine, quinine, rifampin, spironolactone, stimulants (eg, amphetamine), succinylcholine, sulfasalazine, sympathomimetics (eg, albuterol, pseudoephedrine), tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline), thioamines (eg, methimazole), verapamil, or thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including, severe heart failure or other heart problems (eg, inflammation, heart block, cor pulmonale, cardiomyopathy, amyloid heart disease ), extra heart beats (premature ventricular contractions [PVCs]), other types of abnormal heart rhythm, heart problems due to low thiamine (eg, beriberi heart disease), Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, heart blood vessel problems, fainting due to a heart problem; recent heart attack; severe kidney, liver, or lung problems; thyroid problems; low blood levels of calcium, magnesium, or potassium; high blood levels of potassium or calcium; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding.USE OF LANOXIN 0.125mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of ventricular fibrillation. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Lanoxin 0.125mg.
Follow the directions for using Lanoxin 0.125mg provided by your doctor. DO NOT TAKE LANOXIN 0.125mg within 1 hour of food high in fiber. DO NOT TAKE antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, cholestyramine, or colestipol within 2 to 4 hours of taking Lanoxin 0.125mg. IF YOU ARE TAKING THE ELIXIR OR SOLUTION, use the dropper that comes with Lanoxin 0.125mg to measure your dose. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure your dose. STORE LANOXIN 0.125mg at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. KEEP LANOXIN 0.125mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF LANOXIN 0.125mg take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE LANOXIN 0.125mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it, you are allergic to any ingredient in this product, or if you are allergic to other digitalis medicines. DO NOT STOP TAKING LANOXIN 0.125mg without first checking with your doctor. Lanoxin 0.125mg may cause dizziness or blurred vision. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Lanoxin 0.125mg. Using Lanoxin 0.125mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including electrocardiogram (ECG), blood electrolyte levels, kidney function, and blood digoxin levels, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. LANOXIN 0.125mg MAY AFFECT CERTAIN LAB TEST RESULTS, including the electrocardiogram (ECG). Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use Lanoxin 0.125mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Lanoxin 0.125mg. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING LANOXIN 0.125mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING LANOXIN 0.125mg IN NEWBORN INFANTS (especially premature or immature infants) because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Lanoxin 0.125mg. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Lanoxin 0.125mg during pregnancy. LANOXIN 0.125mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Lanoxin 0.125mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Lanoxin 0.125mg include diarrhea or nausea. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience blurred vision, yellow vision, or other vision changes. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience confusion; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; mood or mental changes (such as depression); severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain; unusual tiredness or weakness; or unusual bruising or bleeding. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Lanoxin 0.125mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. POISONING MAY OCCUR IN CHILDREN WHO ACCIDENTALLY SWALLOW LANOXIN 0.125mg or who receive too much medicine. IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include very fast, very slow, or irregular heartbeat.
DO NOT SHARE LANOXIN 0.125mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE LANOXIN 0.125mg for other health conditions. KEEP LANOXIN 0.125mg out of the reach of children and pets. IF YOU WILL BE USING LANOXIN 0.125mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
