I really love this product.

I have medium brown hair with some gray in it. This colors my hair a dirty blonde color that I really like, and my gray is a pretty silver color. I've gotten many compliments since I've been using this product. Coloring my hair makes my hair seem thicker too since it's gotten finer as I've gotten older.

I had been coloring my hair a medium brown when I applied Downtown Brown the first time, and it worked for me. I've been using it ever since. I leave the product on my hair the amount of time given on the package directions. Prior to using this product, every time I had tried to go blonde, I ended up with orange toned hair at my roots.

With this color, I also use Clairol shimmer lights to make the color look even better. As long as I decide to stay blonde, I will use this hair color.

About highlights, however, I had highlights in my hair when I first started using it, & it turned those a little purplish (since it has a violet base in it to counteract brassiness), but not too worry, it washes out in a shampoo or two.

Here is the pic after the toner, NOTE that I started out very dark dyed brown with auburn tones. Got the dark blonde I wanted!!

this is the best product and color that I have ever found for my hair. I have been looking for a very light shade of brown for years buti my colored hair takes very dark so I never ended up with what I wanted. This color came out exactly as it was shown on the box.. I am a very happy customer and I will definitely recommend this to others.

I have always played with coloring my hair, but now as a mommy to a toddler, I wanted to actually look like she was mine. In trying to get back to my natural light ash brown, I have had too much brassiness appear. I tried this in hopes that it would cover the few grays, bring me back closer to my natural shade, and reduce the brassiness. I have now used this twice and I love it. The only reason I took a star away, was because it seems like the anti-brassiness doesn't last until the next coloring. I only wash my hair twice a week, use a color protection shampoo, and still start to see a little brassiness closer to my coloring time. But, nonetheless, I love it, will keep using it. The conditioner that it provides sucks though. I have used other coloring kits from L'Oreal and felt like those conditioners were better. I still felt like I needed to condition my hair after using it.

Most of the reviewers who gave this product negative reviews got a negative result for specific reasons that I can explain:
1) Yes, the product has a heavy COOL toner in it. This toner has blue/gray/purple undertones designed to elmininate the red that some of us want to be rid of. If you DON'T have red understones, or if you have blonde in your hair or a LOT of gray, those COOL tones will show as blue/gray/purple in your hair. Use a product that is described as NEUTRAL or WARM if that is the case.
2) This product is high-lift, not designed for use on hair that isn't very dark. If your hair is medium brown or lighter, do not use a high-lift product.
3) Some reviewers said that this product did NOTHING. I don't see how that's possible, but perhaps on extremely black hair it's just not enough peroxide. In that case, you might buy a bleaching kit AND this product. I have very dark hair with a lot of gray streaks. I had to bleach my hair first (which made it orange) and then I added this product. I then had a cool, ashy light brown. The lightest streaks in my hair did have a gray/purple cast to them which washed out in a few days.

Having written all of that, I have paid many hundreds of dollars for salon color, and yet have never left a salon with a color that I loved. This color is perfect (for me). I wanted something light but NO brass, and with natural-looking highlights. I will never go back to a salon again. My roots grow in so quickly, and I can cover them in 40 minutes at home (I do leave it in 10 mins extra for the stubborn grays).

The conditioner it comes with is mediocre. I use it, but then I massage a little raw shea butter into the ends of my hair to moisturize them. I blow dry and then - while hair is warm - use a little macadamia or argan oil (or more shea butter) to moisturize again. If it's humid out, John Frieda Frizz Ease "Secret Weapon" is great. I keep it in the car for emergencies.

It was a huge disappontment for us to end up with purple hair. Too hard on hair/scalp to redye immediately. How embarrassing! By the way, followed directions. Bad batch perhaps.

I have asian hair but it's not my first time dying it. With this product, I always get a medium to dark brown color with very little red/copper tone. It's one of the few products that does not give me the brassiness like most hair dye products do to asian type hair. I would give it a 5 star if it lightens more to a lighter brown color like the picture on the box.

Box looks just like other feria colors, but it's not the same. but since i have opened it i will be strand testing it after my many color removals :)
