This review is meant to help you make a choice about this color. My hair was shoulder blade length, naturally dark/medium blond with ends that get faded in the sun. I dyed my hair 2 years ago but haven't since so it is possible that some of the ends were also still porous from being dyed 2 years ago.

I have a lot of experience dying my hair at home and with major stylist in LA and such....this is what you should know about this product before you choose it.

Healthy natural even colored on the darker side blonds: If you don't have lighter ends that get bleached with the sun you will get a very light golden brown color after 25 minutes not a neutral shade brown almost more a dark blond so if you want a deeper richer color I would recommend a different product then this.

For processed or sun bleached medium/dark blond hair (like my ends were): This is a very ashy shade of light brown for you even in as little as 15 minutes set time and with putting a conditioner on before you color. I feel lucky that I knew enough to not leave it in for the full 25 on my ends and only did 15 and pre conditioned otherwise the colors would have been so different and so drastically ash dull on the ends I'd have to wear a hat, lol. Not very natural, actually quite dull light brown. Has a greyish tinge about it. Hair looks a bit lifeless actually so I'm going to get a box of something different and fix it in a few days.

For Light Brunettes: Not from experience but based on other reviews I picked up from brunettes and knowing a bit about dyes...I believe this will take red tones out of your hair very well. Giving you a cooler tone if so desired. After 25 minutes it left a lot of my gold in from my natural blond area so I think it will still leave some of your natural gold highlight if you have that showing. If it is processed highlights those will actually take a bit more of the color not less so I wouldn't account for those to show through as much.

I am soo happy I went on a limb and tried this hair color after I colored my hair light golden brown with Clairol Perfect10 which turned my naturally light brown roots super orange and I needed to fix it the next day. This color looked very dark when it was time to wash it, but believe me that is just for the processing time so please do not be afraid! While I was washing the color out, I noticed how soft my hair felt and that barely any hairs fell out which do fall out from other colors quite a bit. I shampoo'd my hair with Kerastase shampoo and used the conditioner that came with the box and left it in for 20 mins. My hair was super soft, easy to brush and most importantly perfect light brown color, with no red in sight (color only applied to roots). I only needed 1 bottle, that's how much color there was with some leftovers even though I have lots of hair. All in all would purchase again and again :)

I had a medium blonde color before using this. I use Preference all the time, but just the blonde shades. This is my first time using one of their brunette shades. My results were super dark. I looked on the side panel to make sure that this wouldn't turn out to dark prior to buying this, but I guess my hair was so porous it just absorbed all the dye. I'm hoping after a few washes it will lighten up. I gave it 3 stars only due to my color not matching the color listed on the side of the box. I'm still a Preference fan though. I think their colors are usually excellent.
