I used to use Dior Show, Lancome Hypnosis, or Badgal Lash then I eventually switched to Almay Intense I-Color Mascara but the bottle dries out in a week and I noticed that even with makeup remover it was tough on my lashes to get it off. Luckily I tried L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara because I love it as much as my Badgal and it is a 4th of the cost. For people who have problems with brushing they probably aren't swiping the excess off the brush before they apply and they have to finish one I completely before they switch to the other. To apply with a clean brush simply hold the wand handle and slide the bristles against the opening of the bottle so there aren't any goopy areas on the brush. I use to do this with my Dior show as well. In addition to applying with a clean brush, you will also want to start at the base of your lash line and use a zig-zag motion as you draw the wand up your lashes. If you are getting clumps then just work on your application. A lot of the thickening/volume mascaras will look clumpy if you don't clean ans zig-zag. You can also use a lash comb right after applying (before it sets) if you want to get every lash combed out but this will reduce the thick look of your lashes. In addition to this note that can hopefully help you make a choice these are some additional pros.

Pros:
- Thickens and Lengthens
- Doesn't clump when used correctly
- The Carbon Black is a nice deep black color
- Depending on your look for the day you can do a light one coat or layer it on to do that sex kitten eye look
- I think it healed my lashes from the damage the Almay brand did, really nourishing
- Washes off easily, I don't even need makeup remover now, yay!
- I'm only on day 20 with this but I do think it will last the full month
-Curved brush so you can really get every lash and sweep them upward

I wish I could have given this product zero stars because it deserves nothing more. The most clumpiest mascara I have ever purchased. Even when trying to remove some of the mascara from the brush before applying, still doesn't work. I will never purchase this mascara again. I was absolutely disappointed with this product and expected better quality from L'Oreal.

This is the first mascara that I've used that doesn't clump and smudge. It lengthens but does not look unnatural.

Okay, I read something about this mascara and had to try it. I was really excited about the curved brush. The problem is that when you pull the brush out of the tube, it seems like half of a tube of product comes out with it! I tried different ways of pulling out the brush (at an angle, spinning it, etc.) but nothing helped. If I cleaned the brush off with a tissue every time I used it, the tube wouldn't last a week (yes, that much product comes out)! Terrible design. Did my best to get it on my lashes, but it was just a big mess. Sorry, I can't even tell you how long it lasts or whether or not it smudges or flakes - I never got that far!

I have a love/hate relationship with this product. It performs better than 99% of drugstore brand mascaras BUT it inevitably smudges by the end of the day. I also have to have a tissue when I apply because so much extra product comes out on the brush when you pull it out. But, It gives great volume and length.

I've used this mascara for years and it's always made my lashes long and thick. My lashes are normal length but when I take my time and apply two coats of this mascara, they stretch up and touch my eyebrows. This mascara is the one thing in my makeup bag that I can't live without.

Clumps on my lashes. Applies too thickly. I try to remove some mascara from the brush before applying, but then doesn't apply enough.

I have tiny, short lashes, so I need a volumizing mascara to make my lashes stand out. I've been using Lancome's CILS BOOSTER XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base, with Dior's Diorshow mascara. This L'Oreal Voluminous Curved Brush mascara is even BETTER! I noticed a difference on my first application. The mascara formula and the slightly curved brush, with closely-spaced bristles, lengthened and thickened my lashes, even WITHOUT a primer. This is my new favorite, at 1/4 of the price of Diorshow mascara, or 1/7 of the price when you consider that I don't need to use the Lancome primer either!
