This product tastes pretty darn good on its own. It is great if you jazz it up a bit. I add sauteed onions and broccoli, coriander, nutmeg, black pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese. You can also add fresh herbs such as cilantro, parsley, etc. (Saute the veggies in oil/butter, add the risotto grains to the veggies and follow the directions from there. Add in the extra spices with the spice packet. Add fresh herbs and cheese at the end.) I'm sure there are many more ways to customize this dish!

I am very picky, used to restaurant-quality food, and I will say that I really enjoyed eating this. It was easy to cook. I loved the taste- added an extra teaspoon of fresh garlic, a dash of cayenne and a little black pepper to up the flavor. I would probably make it with cream instead of milk next time to make a bit richer. I grew up eating Uncle you-know-who rice mixtures, and this was a nice change from that type of product.

My son loves this risotto. He helped me prepare it the first time we had it as a side dish with salmon. He would give it more than 5 stars because, "It's really good!"
Stovetop Instructions Saute rice with 1/2 tbsp butter* in a 2-qt heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 cups of water*, 1/2 cup milk, contents of seasoning pouch, stirring well to blend seasonings. Heat to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer. Do not cover. Cook 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, parsley & sliced shallots if desired. Serve piping hot.
Microwave Instructions For safety: Use microwaveable bowl, lid or plastic wrap. Microwaves vary; adjust time as needed. Place 1/2 cup milk, 2 cups water*, 1/2 tbsp butter*, rice and the seasoning into a 2-qt bowl. Mix well to blend seasonings. Cover. Cook 10 minutes on high. Uncover carefully and stir well. Cook uncovered for 10 additional minutes. If desired, garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, parsley & sliced shallots. Serve piping hot.
Variations *Use 1/2 tbsp margarine or olive oil in place of butter. Replace 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup dry white wine if desired.
