This is my first ever product review, and it is LONG...
About six months ago I ran out of the usual lip balm I used every night before going to bed. Thankfully, I found some Lypsyl (which I bought years ago and never used). I really didn't expect to see or feel anything different. I learned long ago not to expect much from the multitude of new hair, skin, lip & eye care products, as all of the hype for these products is often just a well executed advertising campaign aimed toward making people think they have found that infamous "fountain of youth" which we all desire as we age. Reviews help, but are often hard to go by since everyone has a different skin type, etc... However, we all have lips -- some are just older than others! ;-)
Anyway, when I applied Lypsyl before going to bed it went on much smoother than my usual balm. That was the only immediate difference. It was the next morning that really WOWED me ... my lips were no longer dry & chapped like the day before, they felt incredibly smooth, and the best part was that they looked great -- very full & plumped. What a fantastic, unexpected surprise!!
I have since used this every day & night. For the first time, in my 43 years, I don't have flaky, dry chapped lips this winter. Plus, the fine lines on my lips, which I never noticed until a few years ago, are almost nonexistent while wearing this product! The best part is waking up every day with smooth, plump, moisturized lips. I have no idea what it does, but wearing it overnight helps tremendously (maybe because it stays on for so long without the interruption of eating, drinking, etc.?) I have forgotten to apply it a few times before going to bed, and the difference is immediate!!
Another great benefit is that I sometimes use this in place of the shiny topcoat which comes with my long last lip stick/gloss, and it is the first regular balm that doesn't make it rub off right away (works almost as well as the top coat, but not nearly as shiny).
The only way my lips could be any more PERFECT would be finding a product to help bring back that nice natural pinkish color of young lips. About the closest I could find was when I recently discovered that wearing original Lypsyl over the new lip stains works very well to keep my lips feeling moisturized while adding a nice lip tint that stays on practically forever. This is a huge relief as the stains are awesome but can feel rather dry when used all alone.
Tip for the lip stains too: ... the colors are true and can be VERY dark & intense -- much different from lip gloss & lipstick as it penetrates deep into the lips rather than just sitting on top. I think that is how it keeps the color lasting nearly forever. Hold the sticks up to your lips until you find the color that looks perfect with your skin tone -- only buy if you really like one of the colors because it will look almost exactly the same as what you see there.
One last note -- the first Lypsyl I used was in a blue & white container which twisted up like chap stick. It was more like a Vaseline texture, and it didn't have any beeswax or the slight mint tingle. When it ran out I was so happy to find it still on the market, but a little disappointed to find that it was so different (the yellow container with the bee that pushes it up). Seeing the added ingredients, I thought my perfect new lips would be gone forever. Was I ever wrong!! Adding those few new ingredients really only made it that much better. It seems like it stays on even longer now, while still doing all the same great things for my lips!! :-)
I also bought the Lypsyl with eucalyptus here at Drugstore.com, and I like it too. It is almost exactly the same. However, it squeezes out of a tube (like original Blistex) with a slanted soft rubber tip, it has a slight medicine smell/feel, it isn't as smooth going on (feels thinner, maybe?) and it doesn't seem to last on my lips as long. Great if you need lip medication, otherwise stick with original Lypsyl -- and begin loving your lips forever more!! :-)

I'm always looking for an alternative to Dr. Hauschka's lip treatment because of its price. This one looked promising because of the inclusion of shea butter, and all the positive reviews. However, it bombed. While I appreciate the clever styling of the container (you push a little thingie to move the stick of balm up and down, instead of twisting -- cute!), it simply doesn't work. It goes on smoothly, but has an annoying minty feel similar to Jack Black's lip treatment. Don't care for it. And, it dries my lips. Really defeats the purpose of moisturizing. Another failed attempt to save money on Dr. H. Ah well!

Comments about Lypsyl Lypmoisturizer Lip Balm, Original Mint, .1 oz:

I have used several expensive and expensive lips balms, including clarins's hydraquench lip balm and Malin & Goetz's lip balm. I found this to be on par or above most of the lip balms I have tried.

I ordered this product because I used to use Honeyberry Lypsyl. I loved that, but an ingredient changed making the taste and smell not very good. That is why I switched. I'm so glad I found another Lypsyl product I like just as much.

Comments about Lypsyl Lypmoisturizer Lip Balm, Original Mint, .1 oz:

My hands are covered with scars from "toaster oven burns" and scratches, so when I gave myself a more serious "spilled molten hot black bean soup burn" I started looking for an ointment to reduce what I knew would be a serious blotch on my hand. The pharmacist said he just used petrolatum (vaseline). But the ingredient list on the very expensive burn products had lots more than just petrolatum or mineral oil. I'm cheap, so I didn't spring for the fancy stuff, I thought I'd try vaseline first. When I got home my eye fell to my little tube of Lipsyl and I skimmed the ingredients. Looked like expensive burn meds to me, so when all fear of infection was gone (after it had formed a protective layer of skin), I applied the Lipsyl to the spot several times a day. It's doing wonders. I have a small fading pink patch where I would have had an angry-looking scar. Now I'm sure the makers of this product do not want you to use it in any way not intended, but the ingredients are safe for this purpose if you do not apply it on broken skin. Wait til it's healed, then apply liberally. Hey, it's great for chapped lips, too.

My cousin raved about when we found it at a drugstore. When i saw it here i decided to try it out, especially because it was on sale. I'm surprised that it works the way it does. I was never a fan of going out to look for any type of lip moisturizer and this lip balm completely surprised me. It smells great, it's soothing, and it also leaves a minty feeling on your lips.
