I will admit that when I first opened and inspected the mask I was disappointed that the primary construction of the mask was cardboard. Having used numerous high end masks, I couldn't imagine this one to be effective. I was wrong. The padding around the lower portion of the mask serves to both balance the mask on your face and eliminate light entering from that area. The balance also insures that no light enters from the top or sides. The mask is comfortable and effective. I love it. VS Most Liked Negative Review Not a good sleep mask I've had lots of sleep masks as I used to be a night worker and thus slept during the day. This one is too stiff and doesn't keep out the light. Comments about Mack's Shut-Eye Shade Premium Sleep Mask, 1 ea: I'm a big fan of sleep masks, and use one nightly. I've bought quite a few, including one or two that cost three times what this one did, and this is my favorite yet. I was very surprised, as it's made out of kind of stiff fabric that seems like it would be uncomfortable, and the straps are teeny thin strings, (and it was CHEAP) so I expected to hate it. BUT! It is very comfortable, it stays put even though the thin strings look like they would move all over the place, the stiff material keeps it totally over your eyes (and doesn't feel stiff at all when you're wearing it), and it completely blocks all light, all the time. My smaller ones move around during the night and let in light-- not this one. My only concern is that it may wear out quickly with those thin little strings. But at that price I'm ordering a couple more as backups!

The morning sun shines through my drapes over my east window making it impossible to sleep in on days I don't have to be anywhere else. The eye-mask has made it so I can get the needed rest and sleep I crave. Thank you!

I've used many different eye shades and they all let in light. Service and delivery comments: Delivery was prompt, arrived in perfect condition.

The bands eventually break down and you need to replace the mask. But I really like the mask portion that shuts out light really well and does not press on your eyes making it very comfortable. A simple soft black covering for the eyes with one elastic strap is the most comfortable and sufficiient. I found this mask too be uncomfortable and painful for my purpose.
