We also have very creaky floors and doors that stick when you open them. This noise machine is ok. I feel like the noise from the machine is too disturbing (even on low) and, yet, it doesn't really do a good job covering up sounds. I like my regular fan better (but I can only turn it on in warm weather). This is our second machine, the first is still in great condition but purchased an extra one for our guest room. It really helps to get a good night sleep! Living in New England, the winters get pretty cold to have a fan going. This machine is compact, so it doesn't take up a lot of space and it works great to block out any outside noises when you need to sleep or just relax. It's so worth it!! A box fan works just as well but this is small, and wont blow everything around, or make the room cold. The noise will cover most basic nuisance noises. NOT EFFECTIVE for loud music with heavy bass (BOOM-BOOM-BOOM) no matter what adjustments/speed/or placement. BUT I still think it was money well spent, we have been able to get some sleep since we purchased, instead of no sleep before. I slept in the room with one of them most of the visit.....and I have to admit I slept better than I have in a while! Very calming and comforting.
