I had previously been using Maybelline Define-A-Lash in (I think) the volumizing formula, which came in a fuschia tube, and it worked well. I throw away my mascara every 3 months so I got the green one (lengthening?) to replace it, not expecting much difference. In my experience it's mostly the brush that distinguishes a volumizing from a lengthening, with the exception being waterproof or fiber extending, when the mascaras are from the same brand. I'm pretty sure this brush looked exactly the same as the old one, but to my surprise this one did not perform as well. It made my lashes look spidery and point in all different directions. Very sloppy looking. As far as smudging and flaking it was average. I'm not going to hold a high expectation to a drugstore mascara. I threw this mascara away after a week. Now I'm using the Falsies Flared and am much more happy with it. If you are interested in Define-A-Lash try to find the one in the fuschia tube, it works much better than the green one.

This mascara is OK, but it's not what I was looking for. I have used Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume for a about 2 years now and love it, but couldn't find it anywhere when I needed a new mascara. So I bought this, thinking it was the replacement, even though it didn't say Volume. The Volume one gave me volume and some lengthening, while separating my lashes and not clumping. This version gives me no volume or lengthening. But it doesn't clump and it's smooth. It separates lashes somewhat, not great. I think it would make someone looking for a simple, natural look happy, but I want just a little more for daytime - not heavy, just the next step up. This isn't it.

This is a great mascara. Defines and lengthens lashes without making them look "over done" or too thick. Doesn't clump and lasts all day.

I have been coming back to this mascara. I have tried other ones for lengthen + define natural and sensuous look and I always am coming back to Mayballine Define-A-Lash. There is truely no clumpiness and a beautiful definition, something very hard to find. Other brands use the same slogan but simply don't deliver.

I love this! I seen that some people below me were having a problem w/ clumping? I've never had that problem. I started using this a couple years ago when I found it in my moms makeup kit lol! It lengthens, separates & DEFINES! I loooovvveeeeeee the silicone brush too! (: This is the best drugstore mascara I have ever tried, besides the loreal telescopic! The only thing that this mascara lacks is volumizing but I dont really care about volumizing it dont bother me, so it's great! (:

I have been searching for a great lengthening mascara and decided on this one after reading several positive reviews. It does a good job, but I wasn't blown away as some of the other reviewers appeared to have been. I do like the brush and I agree with the previous reviews that it does not clump. Overall, I was pleased with it but had expected more.

This is my second time buying this mascara. I really like it. Typically when I buy mascara, a couple of weeks into using the product, I find it doesn't do what it used to do. With this mascara, the tube that I bought a couple of months ago still works as well as it did when I first bought it. It doesn't clump on the brush and therefore doesn't clump on your lashes. I normally need to wear eye shadow and a small amount of liner, but with this mascara, I could go with just mascara (and concealer, etc.). Also, my make-up looks good even at the end of the day when I'm exhausted. My concealer and other make-up may have worn off (I don't re-apply at all throughout the day), but the mascara is still there.

IMy favorite thing about this mascara is the wand. It's a little flexible and the bristles are smaller which allows me to do my bottom lashes without getting it all over underneath. I have great control, and can do little sparse ones without the mess. I noticed that some said it is clumpy. I don't have that prolem. When I remove the wand from the tube I slide it out on the edge to remove excess mascara, so I have no clumping problems. Its dries fast and lengthens. I find it simple and easily to manipulate and use.

If this gave my lashes a little more volume, I'd think it was perfect. It does a fantastic job of separating and lengthening my short, very curly lashes.
