It was a pretty deep gash, and all the while that I had the stitches in, I was really concerned about scarring. Sure enough, once the stitches were removed, I had a pretty nasty line across my cheek that I was immediately self-conscious about. Upon the recommendation of both my surgeon and family doctor, I tried Mederma. VS Most Liked Negative Review Seemingly Decent, BUT Be Careful Okay, so even with all the reviews read - some positive, some negative - I decided to try Mederma because it is the number one doctor recommended treatment for scars (as advertised). On my husband who had recent surgery, there has been no problem and his scar is really looking good. On me, on the other hand, it caused an intense itchy/scratchy/burning sensation after a couple of days use. I had to quit using it. But, that is a common thing for me. If anyone is going to have a reaction to skin products, it will be me, so keep that in mind. If it works for you, then the results will be very good. If you have the reaction, then you will be very uncomfortable for a while till it wears off. But, with a bad scar it is worth it to try it. Just put it on a small area to start with, for a week or so. It took a few days for me to have the reaction. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: It made the area around my skin itch ridiculously. It was on old scar, but the label says it works for old scars as well. Well, it's been 2 months and I haven't noticed a difference yet. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: Maderma did not work for me and I saw no improvement in the appearance of my scars after several months of use. Also it made my skin itchy and hardens into a thin film upon application which is uncomfortable. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: This stuff made my new scar itch and turn bright red; I think it is too strong for new sensitive skin. Stick with baby oil, Vaseline or cocoa butter, pure and natural ingredients Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: For me, this did work to reduce a scar I had on my face, though not completely. The itching goes away after a week or so and I only used it at night. It does take away the redness and also causes peeling of the skin to reduce the scar which is why I think they want you to use it so frequently and for a few months. It does tend to dry the skin out. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: I used this product on a new scar with only two applications. The skin around my scar itched uncontrollably. By evening my whole face was itching, tingling and burning. The dermatologist assistant said to put cold compress and follow up with Vaseline. The cold compress felt so good. The Vaseline helped a little, but I probably could do without it. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: I bought this several weeks ago. In fact I bought several tubes. I have never had a reaction to any product, but this one makes me dry and itchy. So much so that it is hard to ignore. I have a feeling most people probably have this reaction. I will be finding a new product to use. I won't buy this one again! Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: While I'm sure this stuff works, I must say that I had a bad reaction to it. Similar to some reviewers on here, after applying the gel, my scar began to itch (and thats a bad feeling, especially when the scar is still sensitive). I tried to keep using it but after about 2 weeks of redness and itching, I gave up. This product went straight into the garbage can. I'm now using those sticky pads and they seem to be working. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: This stuff works. I bought it to get rid of some acne scars about 3 weeks ago and I'm glad I did because it is working. I already got rid of a couple around my chin and now the others are maybe 3 shades lighter. I'm sure it won't get rid of all the scars, I'm being realistic but I am very happy with my results. Comments about Mederma Skin Care for Scars, Topical Gel, 1.76 oz: I would have given this product 10 stars if I could have! I had a bad scar from a chain saw accident; actually the cut wasnt that bad, I guess my jeans helped when the thing kicked back, but it healed with two large raised places. My mom bought this stuff and I left it laying around for months because I just couldn't believe anything but surgery or those expensive steroid shots would work. Well, I finally decided to give it a try and within a few weeks I started to see a difference, and within a couple of months both scares were all but gone! This stuff is truly amazing TRULY!!!
