Sure enough, once the stitches were removed, I had a pretty nasty line across my cheek that I was immediately self-conscious about. Upon the recommendation of both my surgeon and family doctor, I tried Mederma. I used it on new acne scars for 2 says, applying 3-4 times just like it says, and the scars were already virtually disappearing. Even made an old scar on my hand begin to fade quickly. I just recently started working out and wanted to use something to fade away my strech marks, and I think that mederma hows help the appearance. I will continue to use it. And of course not everyone will get the same results, everyone's different...But I'm happy to say that it has worked for me. Mederma is not a miracle worker on major scars, but this stuff works great on pimple scars and new breakouts. It also works well on enlarged pores--I love it. Since I've lived in Miami, my pores have gotten bigger. I wash my face and rub it in well right before I go to sleep. After a few days, my face looks clearer and smoother. It does tingle and itch a little, but for me that means it's working. Believe it or not, I just finished my first tube since I began using it. Hope this helps. After applying the gel 3-4 times a day for two weeks, people were complimenting me on what used to be horribly scarred skin. Also, Mederma somehow prevents new acne from forming! Yayy!!! I began using Mederma 2-3 times a day on it as soon as the scab was gone. The scar is a light pink, but better than that (as I know color will fade with time anyway) is that the scar is smooth -very smooth. I will continue using on scar for several months and post end results. As for old scars, I would not expect this to work on scars that are years old. I would think that after that much time, the skin has set and you would have to have new surgery or a chemical treatment to change the scar and THEN use Mederma... but that's just me guessing. I think it's true that it's not going to be as effective on older scars, but I researched it before I had to get a mole removed from my ear. I started using it the day I got the stitches out. I followed the directions (I think they said to use the product 3-4 times a day) and within a few weeks, the scar was almost invisible. Really. I was so self-concious after the surgery, but now I wear my hair up all the time. Definitely worth the cost. I absolutely love it, but it's possible that it doesn't work that great on deep scars. I have been using it for acne and post-acne darkening and red blotches. It's really helped me, and I would recommend it to others with adult acne. I tried 3 tubes to see if it would heal or make my scar better, but it didn't do anything at all. It has a nice smell, but that's it. Doesn't clear scars, doesn't help scars. What a waste of money, save your money and buy vitamin E oil base bottle which suppose to work wonders and heal even make scars look better. I talked to my dermatologist and he said that the scars would fade by themselves, and there are no magic creams out there that speed up the process. He did say to wear sunscreen, because UV rays definitely inhibit the fading process. (In fact, that's the reason why many plastic surgeons won't do procedures during the summer, because your scars won't heal if you're tanning on the beach.) So everyone wear your sunscreen!!
